Bringing sexy back: Wings Lidstrom, Osgood dance on 'Tonight Show'By STEVE SCHRADER • FREE PRESS SPORTS WRITER • June 11, 2008
Hockey is easy. Comedy is hard.
But that's what Red Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom and Chris Osgood tackled instead of the usual couch interview Tuesday night on NBC's "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno."
Here's the setup: Leno was taking fake audience questions, and one guy asked who taught another guest, Justin Timberlake, how to play hockey for "The Love Guru."
"It's so funny you asked that question," Leno said, "because we have those guys here tonight."
And out came Lidstrom and Osgood with the Stanley Cup.
Leno also spotted some Detroiters wearing Wings jerseys in the crowd and had them come onstage for a few moments.
Then he asked Osgood -- and a couple years ago, who'd have thought he would be on "The Tonight Show"? -- where he was from.
Ozzie said, "I'm from a wintry place called Canada."
"Now, do they have hockey up there?" Leno asked. That Jay; he's a card.
Leno also asked if Timberlake taught them anything in return for the hockey lessons.
And the Wings launched into Timberlake's tune "SexyBack," singing "we're bringing sexy back" once and then switching to "we're bringing Stanley back."
You know, you've heard the interviews a hundred times before. This was a pretty nice change of pace.
