AP standing before compared to the end of the season.

I compared the PRE-SEASON AP Top 25 with the FINAL AP Top 25 to find the teams that did better than anticipated and those that did not meet expectations.

Teams that ended the season higher than the AP originally expected:

Alabama +2 places higher at the end of season
Boise State +10
Ohio State +1
TCU +11
Iowa +15
Cincinnati +25
Oregon +5
Brigham Young +8
Georgia Tech +2
Nebraska +10
Pittsburgh +13
Utah +1
Miami (FL) +16
Texas Tech +10
Central Michigan +18
Clemson +10
West Virginia +7

Team the AP did not see at the beginning of the season, but recognized in the end:
Wisconsin +38? (Only 54 teams got votes in the preseason poll; none for Wisconsin)

Texas finished as expected
Penn State finished as expected

Teams that did NOT place as high as the AP originally expected:

Florida -2
Virginia Tech -3
LSU -6
Mississippi -12
USC -18

Teams that the AP liked at the start of the season but did NOT make the Top 25 at the end of the season:

Oklahoma -23 (Gee, losing a Heisman QB does hurt)
Oklahoma State -21
California -29 (no votes in the end)
Georgia -20
Florida State -16
North Carolina -20 (no votes in the end)
Notre Dame -18 (no votes in the end)
Kansas -16 (no votes in the end)
