What's interesting is the fact that pop is a multi-defined homonym which would be a cause for more confusion without context. And soda is simply defined as a 'softdrink.'
Why make an issue of this? Well basically, for the record we call it 'soda' in Hawaii. I suppose I fall in the category of a 'damned person from the south,' and felt the need to defend how we say things... and point out the centricity of ignorance calling people outside of your circle of culture 'incorrect' just because of the insignificant differences.
