If Matt Stafford was the consensus top player in college football, this thread wouldn't exist and we wouldn't be thinking of trading down.

AND. If Favre retires, the Jets are going to be in full panic mode. They won't be able to outbid anyone for a free agent QB. They can't be too sure what will be left at #17 overall, ( would the Jets be very comfortable with Sanchez?), so they will trade up as far as they have to to get their choice of QBs and renegotiate as many contracts as necessary to sign him.
We might be able to get all of the Jets picks this year and their 1st rounder next year for #1 overall.
_________________ Fisher or Joekel or Lane Johnson for #5 overall. I have settled on Johnson as my preference. The only thing Joekel and Fisher have over him is experience at LT. 2 years from now, Lane Johnson will be known as the best LT of this draft!

The Jets wont be in panic mode at all. They have a veteran team. Taking a QB at #1 not only put much more strain on their fragile cap situation, they cant have a rookie under center. If Favre is gone, they'll get a short term FA answer, or start Clemens.
