This is an area where Detroit always fails to invest any time or money and something I would like to see change with the new FO. I really hope they are on the phone right now with the agents for Joseph, Mauga, and even Ellerbe to add to the competition for the MLB position.

I agree, I think they need some more guys in the middle to push the converted OLB's. They may make the squad just because they know the nuances of the MLB position. I'd also like to see a CB or two brought in, as well as a few OG.

Man there are some decent guys out there I hope we sign:
Darry Beckwith - ILB
Frank Joseph - ILB (although I don't know much about him some of the guys were really high on him I'd like to give him a shot to see if he has it)
Nader Abdullah - DT
Dannell Ellerbe - ILB
John Parker Wilson - QB (just to see if he has anything)
Alex Boone OT
Bruce Johnson CB
Anthony Parker OG
Just to name a few...

Not bad. One thing I saw right away that I didn't like was that he doesn't wrap up on the tackle. He looks like he trying to lay someone out all the time. He does have a nice punch at the attack from the video anyways. He looks smaller than his measurables. He needs some proper coaching and some time in the gym, but he might be worth a practice squad spot until he reaches his potential.

I saw Joseph play a few times over the last 2 years and he does seem to ALWAYS be around the football. He may opt for a Florida team though with his family there. The following is from nfl.com Quote: As a junior, Joseph earned All-Sun Belt Conference first-team accolades. He led the league and ranked 28th nationally with a then school single-season record 131 tackles (64 solos) from his middle linebacker position. His 12.5 tackles for loss tied the school season mark. He also posted three sacks with three fumble recoveries, a trio of pass deflections and two interceptions.
Joseph received All-American third-team and All-Sub Belt Conference first-team honors as a senior. The Owl ranked second in the nation with a school single-season record 154 tackles, as his 81 solo hits also ranked second in the NCAA. He had nine stops behind the line of scrimmage, the eighth-best season total by a FAU player. He also recovered two fumbles to go with three pass deflections.
Quote: Analysis Positives: Very physical at the line, throws his body into the hole. ... Gets very low in his ready stance. ... Will not win any track events, but seems to get to every play with good football speed. ... Attacks the line with great ferocity. ... Runs through the ballcarrier on tackles -- behind the line or after hustling to the sideline on quick screens. ... Swarms to the ball downfield, plays through the whistle. ... Possesses one of the most ferocious punches in the country; slams the pads of linemen when attacking the run. ... Can also slip through traffic to hit a back in the hole. ... Rarely gets knocked to the ground on cut blocks. ... Uses his hands to get off blocks near the line and at the second level from full-grown guards. ... Should be a fine special teams player due to his aggressiveness and sure tackling.
Negatives: A two-down player. ... Only adequate size and muscle development for an inside linebacker. ... Lacks great lateral speed to corral quick backs and receivers. ... Little coverage ability, although he can level a receiver coming into his zone. ... Not very fast in his drop and comes out of his stance too early, but he still manages to cover enough ground to stop middle routes short of the first down.
Compares To: DAVID HARRIS, New York Jets -- Harris is much better in pass coverage, but both undersized linebackers demonstrate a vicious hand punch and excel at making plays inside the box. Joseph might be a two-down type of linebacker, unless he can greatly improve his hips in order to get better depth and cleaner breaks in pass coverage. Despite his size, he packs a wallop attacking interior blockers.

The guy I like after Joseph (since the Raiders got him) is Josh Mauga Nevada ILB.
Good size and adequate speed for the middle. I like how he plays the short zone. Faces the play, makes the read and moves fairly quickly laterally. The only thing I don't really like is how it seems like he struggles to bring the ball carrier down. He's a sure tackler, but it could be the wrap up technique that sacrifices the big hit. He is a sure tackler. That's all a positive, unless you need an absolute stop like on a goal line or third down situation. He's the type that will make the contact in the hole, but may be dragged for the conversion anyway.
He has the size and athleticism to lay the wood, but I think that's an attitude thing that might not be coached. Don't get me wrong, he's an aggressive player. Just not the type of knockout artist trying to decleat players.
