I think Fitzsimmons, while not a starter, is ideal as a #2 tight end and has better hands than people give him credit for.
I agree with what you say about Fitz, he is a more than capable back up and he has shown good hands for a TE(better than Ricks or Alexander at least) m2karateman wrote: I still feel that they should have drafted Justin Tuck in round three this year. The selection of Stanley Wilson was a POOR decision. Tuck could become a monster, and is already being anointed the heir apparent to Strahan in NY. A statement to match my own sentiments, Im not sure about this but I think Tuck had consecutive sacks for the Giants their last PS game. I think he will be an intimidating pass rusher, and when he fell to us in the third I was jumping for joy only to hear Mr. Wilsons name called. I dont want to get down on Stanley because I hope he does well for us, but I would have rathered Tuck. m2karateman wrote: Inside linebacker will be a distinct need for next season, as I don't expect Lehman to adjust to the position anytime soon, and Holmes will be gone.
I agree that Holmes wont be on our team next year, and if Teddy doesnt pan out in the middle than we need to target a Brooks or a Hodge with our first pick. It would be scary seeing Boss, Teddy, and Ahmad Brooks as our line backers.
Unless we need to resign Backus we will either take a MLB in the first with a DE in the next 2 rounds or a DE in the first and MLB in the next 2 rounds, it depends on what M&M think is our most glaring need.

No offensive lineman pick in the first 3 rounds?? Especially if we lose Backus, or DeMulling doesn't pan out, we'll need to address the offensive line in the first 3 rounds.

After tonights performance, how about we start with better coaches? I'm sick, just sick, of watching these Lions players hold, interfere, jump off sides, false start, facemask and illegal block their way out of the game time after time. I'm sorry, but this entire organization is an embarrasment to the city of Detroit and the entire Lions fan base across the world.

How about the Lions re-locate to Ann Arbor!! Then they'll have to compete with the Michigan Wolverines!!
After this game..I think the Lions need pretty much new players at every single position except running back and wide receiver!!

I retract my earlier statements, DE will a luxury pick next year LT is as big a need as MLB it seems. I really hope tonights showing is not indicative of Backus' upcoming season.

Right now mock draft sites have the Lions drafting (1st round):
#10 - Mathias Kiwanuka, DE, Boston College
#5 - Jimmy Williams, CB, Virginia Tech
#12 - Joe Thomas, OT, Wisconsin
#14 - Tye Hill, CB, Clemson
#13 - DeAngelo Williams, RB, Memphis
#13 - Mario Williams, DE, NC State
#21 - Tamba Halli, DE, Penn State
I definitely don't think we'll be drafting as high as 5th, nor as low as 21st. We'll probably be drafting right around 10th-15th, where most of the draft sites have us drafting. As far as the picks, the sites have us drafting DE, CB, and OT. I don't understand the RB pick, because although Kevin Jones is having a horrible year we saw his potential last year. Most of his disastrous season is due to injury and a horrible offensive line. I don't think the Lions need to draft a CB first round (because we should have Dre Bly and Andre Goodman next year). And Goodman has been filling in fine. And we don't need a DE end next year. Our defense has been darn good for the most part and in this draft (like every draft before) the Lions need to address the offensive side of the ball by drafting an OT.

This past week, I went into Lions draft mode. I found out that they would pick between 9-12 if the draft was held today. Because of this, I specifically looked at college players that could fulfill their needs yesterday. At this point, my top Lions first round picks for 2006 would be:
1. DE Mario Williams
2. OT Eric Winston
3. OT Marcus McNeil
4. CB Jimmy Williams
5. DE Mathias Kiwanuka
6. OG Max Jean-Gilles

They need to draft either McNeil, Ferguson, Giles (it would be a reach for sure), or Williams.
We need to pick up another CB because Goodman is terrible. He's giving way too many passes for 10 yards or so. He's a decent nickle back, but terrible starter. We need another good corner. I just don't think Smith is ready to play that role yet.
We NEED OL help big time. It's gotta be an OT, especially since Backus has been stinking it up. OGs can wait until the the second or third round.
DE I don't consider a big need. KE, Redding and Hall are all playing very well...DeVries has even impressed every time he's been in. I like our current rotation, but wouldn't mind seeing them go after a guy like Darren Howard or Jon Abraham in FA.
