 Looking to 2006
Sure I know its a fantasy wish to draft the whole USC Trojan team...but
they really look THAT good ! NEVER seen a college team even close
to the 2005 Trojans in 63 + years.
But if the Lions could get just one player it should be Heisman Trophy
winner-to-be, Reggie Bush. He'll never be Barry but I think he'll try to "git
'er dun " !
How can one college team have THAT MUCH talent ? Matt Leinert would be
okay .... no doubt he's good .... but not as huge a talent as Reggie.
Hey Willie, Matt, heads up..... or will it be the same old miserable grind ?
No real Lions fan is crying croc (phony) tears.

 Its Reggie
from eveything I've seen,,, its definitely Reggie.
Truth is, I've never seen any college team THAT talented in over 60 years.
Reggie Bush will win the Heisman this year. But I've seen the Heisman
curse too ..... many a Heisman winner proved to be a dud in the NFL.
Maybe its because so many hard hitters want a piece of 'em. ie
Ronnie Lott, John Lynch types

I don't want another RB..something like another WR... he is the real deal, but we just have too many RBs now.. we need protection

When thinking about next year, my optimism is constantly tempered by this: the Left Tackle position. The problem is that the Lions may not want to lock Backus up in a long-term deal because that position is in need of a serious upgrade. I also read somewhere that Backus is the best LT in free agency, which tells you something about the available pool. The only other option is the draft: but it's not a good idea to go into the draft saying "OK, we are going to draft position X."

Let me just say this about the draft, i know its early but...
Please Lions dont draft Leinart or another WR, we need OL or Defense, i know its easy to be dazzled by a Reggie Bush or other RB, QB, or WR, but with the OL the Lions have now i really doubt any of them could be successful.
At the very least we need top LT prospect, or a top rate LG FA, and i would hope that both will be addressed.
BTW... I had a dream that Steve Hutchinson didnt get tagged and the Lions signed him this offseason, now that would go a long way towards fixing the Lions team.

I'll drink to THAT !. I'd be quite pleased if the Lions would get the
Defense
clicking like Chi-Town's !
Their wins and our losses has been more about Big - D than our
sputtering O...

Detroit won't be in a position to draft Bush or Leinart, so there goes that fantasy.
I would honestly take Bush if we had the 1st pick. I just don't see how you can make a logical argument for passing on a player that will be in the hall of fame and is being compared to Gale Sayers, Barry Sanders, etc.
Leinart would be my 2nd choice. I could honestly see us trading up to #2 to get him, because that means we don't have to give the $$$ of the #1 pick, and get a player that in any other draft wouldn't last to #2.
Hutchinson won't be allowed to walk, just too quality of a player.

I think that free agency will play a more critical role on the development of this team in 2006 than the draft will. I sincerely hope that Matt Millen (or whoever the GM is in March) hears my pleas and gets veteran talent. I still feel our o-line will be fine with just a new LT, our d-line needs to keep Kalimba and get another speed rushing end, our secondary needs a free safety who is strong in coverage ability and has good recovery speed, and a head coach who can put everybody on the same page and get the ship going in the right direction.
I would prefer to get a middle linebacker in the draft, as the past few drafts have shown that a rookie can start and be effective at that position, clear into round three. I would also like to see us get rid of Fernando Bryant and spend a higher (1st or 2nd round pick) on a solid cover corner to play opposite Dre' Bly. McQuarters may leave, Goodman stinks and the rest are still question marks.
I also want us to sign/draft players who have better character and who love the game and not the business. I want a field full of Chris Spielmans and Scottie Vines.

In the games I have seen...Reggie Bush is AMAZING. I would take him despite it being not the biggest area of need for this team. IMO he could improve our team in much the same way LT has in San Diego. I also think Leinhart's sucess is very much married to Bush and not the other way around. Bush is dangerous whenever he gets the ball in a Michael Vick kinda way.
I know M2ks way is the prudent way and that Bush will not be there when we pick but that guy is incredible. Look how well being conservative has helped the Lions thusfar

This won't help either: A gun "fanatic ". From Michigan to Florida to
Vietnam and other world arm-pits .... I've enjoyed using all kinds of
weapons.
Rarely get to the range to shoot these days, however.
Gotta remember your on the 'net ... behind a computer. So you are
quite safe.
Anyway, I've worked with all kinds of psychiatric folks, but not one of them.
My humor may be frequently " dark " or " black " humor because I have
seen plenty .... and I stress "plenty" of death in Vietnam = DMZ and many
other places all in " I " Corps.
Yes, I suffer from PTSD or post traumatic stree disorder .... but I've NEVER had the 1st dream about the Nam. Being a few years older than
most .... I guess it was my luck to accept what I saw... I consider myself
calloused .... talking about it and a sense of humor has brought me through some tough years. Its probably why I'm able to cope.
Guaranteed, you'll never know anyone luckier than this SOB !
Therz more ... but I've said enough....
Most Americans have no idea how lucky we are,,,, REALLY !

 Bush
If the Lions had 1st pick they would have to take Reggie. Guys like that come along once every 2 decades. Others will covet him so you got alot of trade possiblities if you wanted to go that route.
I'd keep him though - get rid of the other backs.
