i like the picks , as long as we get huff or williams iam not mad, even tho i prefer williams , but if we came away with huff , latui and a ilb ,then its a great draft and we need a de , we strengthen up the d- line then it makes great lb play and with bailey and lehman and holmes , woods, and wayne ..

1 Haloti Ngata - DT (Oregon)
1 Jay Cutler - QB (Vanderbilt)
1 Omar Jacobs - QB (Bowling Green)
2 Demeco Ryans - OLB (Alabama)
2 Jimmy Williams - CB (Virginia Tech)
2 Winston Justice - OT (USC)
3 Mathius Kiwanuka - DE (Boston College)
1 A J Hawk - LB (Ohio State)

Updated list of potential Lion picks in the 2006 NFL Draft. The # before the name of the player indicates how many mock draft sites they appeared on, and therefore Mathius Kiwanuka is the most popular pick for the Lions on the mock drafts I've seen. Here's a link to all the mock drafts: http://www.hailredskins.com/MockDraft.htm

UPDATED DRAFT:
Detroit Lions draft:

1.) Michael Huff, DB, Texas
2.) Taitsui Lutui, OG, USC
3.) Anthony Schlegel, LB, OSU
5.) Tim Day, TE, Oregon
6.) BDPA
7.) BPA

I could definitely live with this. I have been touting Schlegel in a big way. If he is available in round three, I would be very happy. Lutui is still a wild card. I would like to see him bring his weight down, but he showed good ability in the Rose Bowl. Some are saying he's good enough to move to tackle in the NFL. The Tim Day selection may have to be used on a DE, depending on what shakes loose in FA. Also, I don't believe we will have a seventh round pick, unless we somehow get awarded a comp.

it's pretty hard to imagine that the lions will go through this draft without picking up a QB anywhere. i definitely dont believe it should be early, but i think you have to draft one, especially with our situation every year.

I disagree... I think any NFL roster should only have one project NFL Qb and we have that in Orlovsky. IMO drafting a Qb now would not only take time away from developing the kid we traded up to get, but it would also render one of the picks (the Orlovsky pick or the new pick) useless.

Excellent point and I agree. I think Dan O deserves another year to show improvement before another QB is brought in to develop. And besides, with only five picks we need to plug other holes first. FS, MLB, CB, DE, OG and maybe OT will be our most urgent needs.

Drafting a Developmental Qb should only be done if the new coach doesn't like Dan and feels there is a better opinion to go. I do agree with mkarateman that with 5 picks we have bigger needs. I hope they don't draft another young Qb b/c we have all seen our success at doing that. and wouldn't help the team. But Remember we are the LIons who take s 3 WR in round 1.

Just glancing over this.

I appreciate mock drafts a TON! They're never "accurate" and are tough as &($& to make. That being said...here's my quick criticism.

I'd be pissed if we took Huff over Jimmy Williams.

No way Schegel lasts until the 5th. No way!

I don't even think Lutui will last until the 40st pick. He's been dominating at the Sr Bowl practice and is like 20 pounds lighter than everyone thought.

I can't see Hodge dropping to 30. He'll impress at the combine.

I think Cromartie will go ahead of Bing and will go to the Chargers...or the Chargers will take a WR since they need a fast WR and McCardell is getting OLD.

I think Vernon Davis will be gone by #15. I think the Niners or the Vikes might take him.

6.) Oakland Raiders ? DE.::.Mario Williams.::.NCST
7.) San Fransico 49ers ? RB.::.DeAngelo Williams.::.Memphis
I don't agree with this pick. Frank Gore, though injury prone, did a fairly good job for the 49ers. They have other needs, and I see them going with defense.

8.) Buffalo Bills ? DT.::.Haloti Ngata.::.Oregon
9.) Detroit Lions ? DB.::.Michael Huff.::.Texas
10.) Arizona Cardinals ? OT.::.Winston Justice.::.USC
11.) St Louis Rams ? CB.::.Jimmy Williams.::.VT

13.) Baltimore Ravens ? RB.::.LenDale White.::.USC
14.) Philadelphia Eagles ? DE.::.Mathias Kiwanuka.::.BC
15.) Atlanta Falcons ? S.::.Ko Simpson.::.South Carolina
In my opinion, too early for Simpson here. He will likely be the first true safety off the board, but not this soon. Tamba Hali would make more sense here.

16.) Miami Dolphins ? QB.::.Jay Cutler.::.Vanderbilt
17.) Minnesota Vikings ? OT.::.Jon Scott.::.Texas
The Vikings don't really need a tackle, they need a center. But they have more needs at linebacker, and Demeco Ryans would be good here.

18.) Dallas Cowboys ? ILB.::.D'Qwell Jackson.::.Maryland
Way too early for Jackson here. Besides, the Cowboys have more needs on offense, particularly along their o-line. Santonio Holmes or Eric Winston make more sense here.

19.) San Diego Chargers ? S.::.Darnell Bing.::.USC
Ko Simpson is a better pick here. But San Diego also needs an offensive tackle. Winston or Scott make more sense if they pass on Simpson. Santonio Holmes is a consideration here as well.

20.) Kansas City Chiefs ? WR.::.Santonio Holmes.::.OSU
21.) New England Patriots - RB.::.Laurence Maroney.::.Minnesota
22.) Denver Broncos(-Thru-Washington) - DE.::.Tamba Hali.::.PSU
23.) Carolina Panthers - OLB.::.DeMeco Ryans.::.Alabama
24.) Tampa Bay Buccaneers - OT.::.Eric Winston.::.Miami (FL)
25.) Chicago Bears - TE.::.Vernon Davis.::.MarylandNo way Davis lasts this long, but if he does I agree with this pick.
26.) Cincinnati Bengals - DT.::.Rodrique Wright.::.Texas
27.) New York Giants - OLB.::.Bobby Carpenter.::.OSU
28.) Jacksonville Jaguars - CB.::.Antonio Cromartie.::.FSU
29.) Denver Broncos - WR.::.Derek Hagan.::.ASU
30.) Indianapolis Colts - ILB.::.Abdul Hodge.::.Iowa
31.) Seattle Seahawks - CB.::.Tye Hill.::.Clemson
32.) Pittsburgh Steelers - WR.::.Martin Nance.::.Miami (OH)

Detroit Lions draft:

1-9: Michael Huff, DB, Texas
2-40: Taitsui Lutui, OG, USC
3-74: Elvis Dumervil, DE, Louisville
5-136: Anthony Schlegel, LB, OSU
6-169: Devin Hester, KR, Miami (FL)
I don't think any of these picks will fall as far as you have them listed. I like the Schlegel pick, but he will go much earlier than most mocks and analysts figure. Dumervil is a likely candidate as an OLB in a 3-4 system, but will likely go round two. Hester will go in about round three or four.

or OT Rashan Butler, Miami (FL)

Also.........Parcells wants bigger LBs now that they have switched to the 3-4 defense. He really wanted to replace Ngyuen this year, but an injury to Burnett delayed that move.

In addition to O-line.........they have a big need at FS.........a speedy coverage guy in particular to make up for Roy Williams lack of coverage ability.

Safety is a need for the Chargers...........but it is a FS they need.

Bing is definitely a SS in the NFL.

Ahmad Brooks is from Virginia and Abdul Hodge is from Iowa. You swapped them in the pick selection at the bottom.

As well, I'd be pissed if we took Hali. Great motor, yes, but we should take Justice at that point - he'd be more valuable than a rookie DE IMO.

I don't think Zona will go with Justice and pass up Cutler. I honestly think that they'll take him even if they sign Warner to a deal (2 year deal for Warner I think, or 3 years but they'll keep him for 2). That'll give Cutler some time to develope.

Hodge won't be there in Rd 2 IMO. I would love him to be our pick, but I don't think he'll be there.

Don't like Tampa's pick.

I think Bing is overrated.

I like Cincy taking a DT, but I still think Gabe is as overrated as they come.

I think Lutui will be the top OG taken after the combine. One solid OG (MGJ, Joseph, or Lutui) will be there when we pick in the 2nd and should be our pick IMO.

Also, Ahmad Brooks is returning to Virginia for his senior season. His teammate Kai Parham is leaving school early.

Yes, I know... I always get them two mixed up. Honest mistake...
