Backus is an average LT. Last year, he seems to have performed well run blocking, but his pass blocking was average. Like McDougal, he could be overwhelmed with speed and finess. Another shortfall was his blocking on screen plays. He completely whiffed on blocks where had he at least made decent contact with the defender, the play could have gone for significant yardage. I don't believe Barron is worth a top ten pick, but if they trade down and get him, Backus should be put at RT.

Let a rookie protect the QBs blind side. Wonderful idea.
I am not saying Backus is an all pro LT I am saying he is consitent. If its not broke dont fix it. Backus has been a good left tackle for the last 5 years. He even played better this year than Woody

Barron's pass blocking skills are said to be superb. The question with him is his ability to run-block. I would be comfortable with him at LT.

It was probley Backus. But hell the Freak is awsome. I think the Lions tried to play catch up the whole. I am dont know the situation but if a defensive end cant get a sack when a team is forced to throw the ball then he doesnt need to go to the pro bowl.

That because you would not be the one standing in the pocket

I was hoping Matt Roth would fall to me. Now let's hope Tuck or Ware make it to me.

GB taking a DT in the first would shock me. With all the help they could use on other positions...wow. DE, OLB, SS could all be upgraded, especially since Sharper left.

I don't see why Miami fans are so thrilled about getting him...
LOL, they don't know what they are in for.
BTW, I think the Freak sacks were agaisnt McDougal. Does anyone know where you can get sacks allowed stats on olineman?

Speaking as a SF fan I can't decide on that trade. With so many holes in the boat it does seem stupid to trade away a first day pick. Then again this scenario does yeild them the drafts top rated QB and WR. Still I would have to rate that move as ok at best. Could be a huge blunder if either player is a bust.
The longer the Barron sits with me the less I like it. Ideally I'd like to see them trade down in that situation. If they couldn't I'd rather see them take a player like Aron Rogers than reach that far for Barron. Just my opinion I HATE to reach!

3) Shawn Merriman
4) Mike Williams or Braylon Edwards (if available)
5) I guess Eramus James (not real high on him)

1. TRADE DOWN
2. Shawne Merriman
3. Derrick Johnson
4. Matt Roth
5. Jamaal Brown
If we trade down to around pick 14-17:
1. Heath Miller
2. Matt Roth
3. Jamaal Brown
4. Erasmus James
5. Marcus Spears

I believe that Millen wants to trade down, maybe even a couple of times and acquire extra picks to build quality depth at numerous positions.
But if they stand pat and pick at 10 then:
1-Merriman-DE
2-Rolle-CB
3-James-DE
4-Williams-WR
5-Barron-OT (this is a reach)
As you may notice I did not mention DJ. That is because I don't believe he will be available. He won't get past 7th pick.

From what I can tell the Lions are the few teams who dont put that down as a stat. Some teams do. But for some reason the lions dont.
