I told you my son is starting class this morning. It is under a Shidoin instructor. I think that is related to Aikido...am I correct? Just curious I wasn't quite sure what form of "martial arts" he was doing

The title of Shidoin is given to a certified or recognized instructor of Aikido. Something similar to a Sensei in karate. Aikido itself is a form of Ju Jitsu that has the focus placed on using an opponents force against them. It involves redirection of that momentum, often in a circular motion. There is also a healthy number of joint locks involved. The man who developed Aikido did so with the intention of having two people working in unison. An
uke is the 'attacker' who ends up getting thrown or put into the hold, the
tori is the 'victim' and does the technique on the uke.
For a bunch of information on Aikido, go to
www.aikido-world.com
They have video of techniques being done and a listing of terminology. I hope your boy enjoys himself. The martial arts system I train in has a bunch of Aikido as a part of it. I love that stuff!
