There are so many rules to this game, everyone plays differently. In my experience, the rules are as follows.
You throw a ball into a cup at the other end of the table (which the other player cannot defend-like a penalty shot). If you make it in, the other player has to drink whatever is in that cup the ball lands in. If you bounce the ball in, the player has the opportunity to swat the ball away, however, if you make it in the cup on the bounce, the player has to drink 2 cups. The winner is the person who makes the other player drink all the booze in the cups on that player's side.

If you want to drink a lot, then the object is to lose. lol. Otherwise the point is to get the other person drunk by winning.
