Here's a different take:

People are blowing this poop way out of proportion.

Most kids are fine. Most people are good. There are millions and millions of school children. Yes, there will be some bad eggs, just due to the law of large numbers. There were bad eggs 20, 50, 100, 200, 1000 years ago. There will be occasional bad eggs until man disappears from the earth.

Also I'm not a father, but based on my own life experiences I think being an over protective parent does more harm than good. When I have kids, I will give them their space, as my parents gave me my space growing up. As m2k said, your kids are smarter than you, and will find ways to get around whatever type of restrictions you try to set up (if they really want to). Trust me. Not that you shouldn't lay down the law, but trying to micromanage every part of your kids life will backfire.

I fondly remember all those girls in college with the ultra religious upbringings....
