About this Image
Using ESO's Very Large Telescope, an international team of astronomers has discovered a stunning rare case of a triple merger of galaxies. This system, which astronomers have dubbed 'The Bird' - although it also bears resemblance with a cosmic Tinker Bell - is composed of two massive spiral galaxies and a third irregular galaxy.

I just thought the picture was pretty cool. So I shared it here.

Edited to add: I just noticed that if you rotate the picture 90 degrees counter clockwise, it also looks like Jesus on the cross.

I have a screen saver that rotates space pictures on my laptop. Does anyone know how I can get this picture added to the rotation?

I don't exactly know what happens when galaxies "merge" but it sounds like it would be quite chaotic. Scary thought...
