 Post Office.
On August 5th, the Post Office will no longer deliver mail on Saturdays.
The Internet is Killing the Post office. Everyone pays their bills online now days. And Email and social networking have replaced sending a letter to someone.

No, bulk mail is killing the post office. I thought it was employee benefits (similar to GM)? There's just not as much mail as there used to be. Basically, all that is left to be mailed are the Bulk Mailings, Social Security Checks, Packages, and the few bills that people are still willing to send through the Post Office. And there aren't even as much packages as there used to be. It used to be a choice between the Post Office or UPS to mail a package. Now it's those 2 and Fed Ex, DHL, ect.

The problem is the majority of the mail that is delivered now is the ridiculous bundles of coupons, catalogues, and BS junk mail, and it doesn't pay.

 Re: Post Office.
Start this week, why do we have to wait until August? Heck, cut Wednesdays out and go to a 4-day week.
The gov't is so slow to react to changing needs - ugh! Let's get out in front of this one...

 Re: Post Office.
My wife delivers the mail. It will eventually be delivered 4 days per week. She don't know why they are waiting until August to drop Saturdays.

Social security checks are comming to an end as well as far as mail is concerned. You either have to have it direct deposited or it will get put on a reloadable visa much like the unemployment cards out now. Mail is slowly turning into a dinosaur...

End the monopoly on certified mail and let Fedex and UPS handle it.

It's now $6.11 to send a letter Certified Mail, Return Receipt Requested... Just paid it today... That's robbery. I don't know why they don't hit it at the real problem - bulk mail. Is it lobbying? When regular postage goes up 6-10% bulk mail goes up 1.6-3%, it's ridiculous.

 Re: Post Office.
The USPS continues to lose money.
In unrelated news, FedEx's stock is up over 4,000% since it went public in 1980.

 Re: Post Office.
I saw this thread and laughed. The post office itself has admitted that it has hundreds of thousands of employees that it doesn't need, but is barred from terminating them because of union contracts and/or federal laws. While the rise of the internet and the bulk mail scam has certainly played a part in their downfall, those are seconday to the primary culprit of union retirement benefits, as well as being mandated to maintain unneccessary staffing levels. Look it up if you don't believe me. The internet is your friend, unlike the corrupt lamestream media which only attempts to advance a socialist agenda.
