Re: Women Lose to Japan in Soccer Final.
All tournament long, the US women left it on the field. The first Japan goal was due to a US mistake, the second was a great Goal. Both teams left it on the field, sometimes the ball just doesn't bounce your way. Not disappointed in our Women's team in the slightest.

First half the ball just wouldn't go in... have to give Japan credit, they held in and did just enough to pull this off. US was controlling the game for a very long time.

great tournament. Like all sports, the best team doesn't always win and the US was the better team but didn't capitalize on their chances. That said, Brazil was better than the US so take that for what it is worth.
Also, Hope Solo is pretty yummy!

Also, Hope Solo is pretty yummy! Brazil better than the US? With 10 players maybe, but even up, they weren't close. They have the best player in Marta, and have some great individual teams, but the US women's team was the best team in the entire tournament. And teams win team sports. MVP of the match went to the Japan Crossbar.

MVP of the match went to the Japan Crossbar. You must've watched a different game than I did. Brazil controlled the play for the majority of that game. It wasn't until the end when it was desperation time that the US stepped it up. Even our first goal was an own-goal by Brazil, and the announcers were commenting on how Brazil was controlling the play as well.

Re: Women Lose to Japan in Soccer Final.
But ball control doesn't equal a better team. France controlled the ball better than every team in the tourney. Brazil has the best midfield in the game, but their fowards and backers are weak. They rely on Marta, rightfully so, as the creator. The US controlling the ball isn't their style. They can do it, like they showed vs Japan, but they actually are better off letting the other team through and with a dominant back line, they can push it forward with speed. You saw that a lot in the Final, we just missed every opportunity.
In the Brazil game, they shadowed Marta, and let the ball come to the back for a counter attack style to wear them out. Up until Marta's goal, which was unreal and crazy good, they never really threatened the goal.
