Post FA WR
Of the FA WRs available who would you take to add to the Lions at this point?

David Givens
Corey Bradford
Tai Streets
Curtis Conway
Kevin Johnson
Charles Lee
Jerome Pathon
David Boston
Troy Brown
Karl Williams
Dedric Ward
Bobby Shaw
Kevin Kasper
Jerry Rice
Tim Brown
Antonio Freeman
James McKnight

and there are many more...

Givens would cost us #10 overall... unless he doesn't sign his tender. I like him as a receiver, but don't see him as a realistic option. :-({|=

I'll pass on these dudes.

Actually, Troy Brown is my leading candidate.

Pathon would be a good pick up at the minimum.

Agreed. Better than Streets.

I like Givens better but he's a Restricted Free Agent and would therefore cost a draft pick. So I'd pass.

Out of the rest I'd definitely go with Cory Bradford.

I'm surprised given all the areas he can help a team that Troy Brown is still available. How many players add depth to WR, CB and KR? The flexibility he adds to the roster could allow a team to do other things.

Think about him with the Lions:

1) He would be the third or even fourth WR, allowing them cut Hakim.

2) As KR/PR, the Lions wouldn't need to keep a guy like Swinton.

3) He could also be the teams #6 CB, with Bly, Bryant, Smith and Cash - they would only need one more CB (Goodman)?

Heck, the Lions could keep 4 QBs on the roster if they like!

I'd snag up another LB and DE (since we'll have so many FA DEs next year) if we had 1 person filling 3 slots...or maybe another diamond in the rough WR since we need awesome depth there.

Troy Brown would be my leading candidate, followed by Pathon, Bradford and Kevin Johnson. The problem with Johnson is he expects top WR $$ and is a locker room liability. But the guy has skillz.

I think I d like to see Anotonio Freeman or David Givens. Im sure they d both work out great as 3rd or 4th receivers, I dont remember them having too many dropped passes. I think I d rather have Reggie Swinten around than Brown, just because he knows the system so well. Hes done decent in the past as well

I was making my pick on the idea that the Lions would have CRog, Roy, Brown/Pathon/Bradford, Swinton, Drummond and a draft pick come in. The Lions need to have at least six wide outs on the roster at the beginning of the season. Mariucci made the mistake of only keeping five last year, and we all know what happened in game one. I like the idea of keeping Swinton and cutting Hakim. I think Swinton is a better ball catcher and can be dangerous after the catch. Hakim is faster, but that won't get you much when you butterfinger the ball so much.

I dont know why but I really want Jerry Rice on our squad, as a 4th reciever and mentor...I hope our WR's look like this: 1.)Roy williams 2.)Charles Rogers 3.)AZ-zahir Hakim (after we restructure his contract) 4.)Jerry Rice 5.)Scottie Vines or Reggie Swinton 6.)David Kirkus 7.)Eddie Drummond

The Lions won't carry seven receivers. If the Lions were interested in re-structuring the contract of Hakim, they would have done so already. I think he is a June 1 cap casualty waiting to happen. They are waiting until after the draft to see if they land a WR there and who shakes loose afterward.

The other interesting, not yet FA, would be Peter Warrick. He has that quickness that is ideal for the slot position and he could be a back up for Drummond. I know his injuries last year would be a deterrent since that is the great liability of our corps. Still, he would be an interesting June option. Also, I do not think he was majorly injured before last year and two years ago was something of a break out season, although obviously he has been a disappointment considering where he was picked. I saw NE snapped up Tim Dwight who I was high one for the same reason. I thought we should have made a bigger play for him. His moves in the open field are awesome. As a punt returner his instincts are unsurpassed.
