Swinton signs with Texans (Houstonchronicle.com)

The Texans created an interesting competition for the return specialist job Monday, signing receiver Reggie Swinton, who will challenge incumbent J.J. Moses during training camp.

Swinton, who spent the first two years of his career with Dallas, played for Detroit in 2003 and 2004. He has averaged 23.9 yards on kickoff returns and 10.9 yards on punt returns during his career. He has four career returns for touchdowns.

good point. Dre' Bly and Az Hakim would be next on the depth chart at KR/PR now. Az might not be around and I certainly don't want to risk Bly getting injured. There are a number of corners in this years draft who returned kicks in college and there will also be some undrafted rookies who have KR experience.

If Millen dosen't resign Drummond and soon, we should let Hansen take a 50 yard shot with Matt's arse. This is what I mentioned before about signing players that we already have, so as to prevent holes that will need to be taken care of in the draft of free agency.

Why waste picks to fix something that didn't really need fixing? Eddie is one of the best return men in the league, there shouldn't even be a question about signing him.

I still think we should go after Troy Brown though.

I couldn't agree more with both these points.

instead of brown why don't we save some money and go for clayton or pac man in the draft they are both good recievers and also returned in college. Both i believe would be able to take over swinton easily.

Brown would add depth to WR, KR/PR, and DB. He would probably also be pretty cost effective IMO. I personally am in support of drafting a WR with our 1st pick if a top one is available. Crog is a huge "?". Az is probably not long for this world either...maybe this year but I doubt he will be back. All our receivers have shown the tendency for injury Crog, Az, Eddie D, and even Roy. Adding depth via FA and draft I think is vitally important.

I guess I do not have much faith in Kircus being able to be our lone healty reciever

I believe we only have Roy, CRog, and Az under contract ATM. Simply drafting a WR doesn't solve our depth issues anyways.

It looks like Reggie is still going to have to win the KR/PR job......

Well my biggest concern is length of contract with brown. We have brought in too many 1year contractors and can't really keep any depth because of it. I would rather get a good YOUNG WR/KR out the draft and let him learn off of Eddie D and maybe replace him when Eddie is gone

I dont know if it was because Eddie is bettr then him in returning punts/kicks, but I did not like how he ran it last year, but I did like him as a reciever he has tremendous athletisim and I hoped we would have resigned him!

 Swinton signing is bad news, but Eddie has been working out with the team during strength training and doesn't appear to be interested in going anywhere. I hope I'm reading into him right,

He said in a chat on ESPN last week that he was going to stay a Lion but his contract hadn't been completely worked out yet. He said he was working out with the team and planned to be in Honolulu Blue next fall, breaking records.
