Post Lions sign Kevin Johnson?
So I've been hearing from some homers that the Lions have signed Kevin Johnson. Saying that Clayton announced it on ESPN. I'm at work and can't prove this and haven't seen anything proving this on espn.com. Can anyone verify this? I've heard it was a 1 year, $1M deal.

I have heard the same thing on 3 boards, all attributed to ESPN. If true, I think it is a pretty good signing, if they cut Hakim. You can get three players for his salary cap this year and Johnsons numbers are a bit better than hakim (avg 2.1 FD's a game vs 1.8 for Az) plus he has not missed any significant playing time with injury and he is an inch taller than Az, as we know with Joey that can mean a lot.

I looked all over hell on every sport website that I normally use and can't find a thing on this. I think it would be a good pick-up if it did though. His hands are more reliable than Hakim's. (Aren't just about anyone's except Stephen Alexander?)

IT WAS ON ESPN.

IN A DRAFT SPECIAL ON ESPN TREY WINGO STATED THAT CLAYTON HAD BREAKING NEWS.
CLAYTON THEN STATED THAT KEVIN JOHNSON HAD SIGNED FOR 1 YEAR
WITH DETROIT.

NOW DOES THIS CHANGE THE STAUS OF HAKIM?

EITHER WAY GOOD TO HAVE ANOTHER TARGET FOR JOEY.

I just heard it on the radio. It's confirmed. From Lions HQ.

We tried to get him 2 years ago in FA but lost out to Jacksonville.

Victor Rodgers signed today.

The Lions will likely keep Hakim unless they make a pick at WR in the later rounds of the draft. Their receiver corps will be:

Charles, Roy, KJ, Az, Vines or drafted player, Drummond

With Kosier being signed and them losing their seventh round pick, I can see the Lions using their fourth rounder on a QB now. Matt Joyce or Ty Hopson will end up getting the axe as a result of this.

OT-Backus, Rogers, Kosier, Butler
OG-Woody, Demulling, Loverne, Joyce/Hopson
C-Raiola

We usually carry nine offensive linemen.

I personally think the KJ signing is a feather in Millens cap.

Oops, forgot to mention that this is from ESPN.com, by Clayton.

The Lions had been snooping around the top receivers in the draft, making others wonder if they were going to use a third consecutive first-round choice on a wide receiver.

2004 SEASON STATISTICS
Rec Yds TD Avg Long YAC
35 373 1 10.7 35 92

After reaching a one-year agreement with Ravens wide receiver Kevin Johnson, the Lions can concentrate on defense with the 10th choice in the first round.

Johnson comes to the Lions in the same way Tai Streets did a year ago. He's an insurance policy in case anything happens to wide receiver Charles Rogers, who has had major collarbone injuries during his first two seasons

The Johnson signing gives the Lions four solid receivers. Rogers and Roy Williams are the starters. Az Hakim is the slot receiver. Johnson is a dependable receiver off the bench who has great hands.

The Lions have been hearing that they will also be receiving Kyle Kosier, a versatile offensive lineman, Wednesday because the 49ers aren't expected to match the one-year, $980,000 offer sheet. Kosier is a restricted free agent and could start at guard or right tackle for the Lions.

Decent signing.

Again, Az Hakim will not be cut, he doesn't create enough cap space to sign even one player for the league minimum. This is becoming my pet peeve.

I hope for his sake and ours tha Az has a good year, I would be the first to apologize for the nasty things I have said, if he just shows up and does his job 9which he is being paid handsomely for).

Has anyone heard anything about the MLB Kassell, are the Titans going to match or let him go?

ESPN.com's John Clayton reports the Detroit Lions have reached a one-year agreement with free agent WR Kevin Johnson (Ravens). Financial terms were not disclosed.

If Az gets cut after June 1 he does create enough space. Besides, this year he accounts for $3.4 million against the cap. If they cut him prior to June 1 he only counts as $2.1 million against the cap (allocated signing bonus for 2005 & 2006). Should they cut him after June 1, he only counts as $1.05 million this year and the same amount next year. So to say that his being cut won't make enough space is wrong.

I may be ignorant, but honestly, Tom Lewand has been the only guy that has been concrete in his duties.

I'm not expecting him to ignore our cap situation now, all of a sudden.

I'm sure we're in good enough shape.
