Lions Attempt Trade With Jacksonville for Garrard
Lions | Expressed Interest in Jaguars' Garrard - from www.KFFL.com
Thu, 21 Apr 2005 20:24:57 -0700
Vic Ketchman, of Jaguars.com, reports the Detroit Lions expressed an interest in trading for Jacksonville Jaguars QB David Garrard prior to Garrard signing a new three-year deal to remain in Jacksonville. The Jaguars' asking price of a first-round pick in exchange for the quarterback was believed to be too steep.

Do you believe this or not?
Fact or Fiction?
This doesn't surprise me at all and it leads me to believe that a QB will be selected by the 3rd round.

Hmmm. The Jags are probably the worst business as far as an NFL team as I have ever seen. I mean, they've got a very good SS in Darius but they won't give him a long-term deal. It's not like anyone they have, or can get right away, will easily replace him. They're $11M under the cap and keep pissing him off by franchising him. Then they had a good deal from Minn for DD and wouldn't take it. Now they're asking for first round compensation for a backup QB (10 fumbles in 10 games played)?? Wow.
Let's give em Walker or Marion and a case of Coors and call it a deal.

They probably think we are amazed by his skillz because of what he did to us in the game last season.

I agree about Jacksonville.
The deal won't happen - Garrard resigned last night. But do you the think the Lions wanted to work something out?

I wouldn't be surprised if this is true, but Jacksonville has got to be absolutely foolish to believe they would get a first round pick for this guy. Maybe a third rounder. I would have offered our fourth.
And you're right, this Jacksonville head office is making some VERY questionable decisions.

I want to rephrase my earlier comment. Jax is FAR from the worst FO in the league. I think Washington and Oakland are the front runners. Jax is shooting up the boards though.

I think that any team that would ask for a 1st round pick for a backup is nuts!! I don't know if it's true or not though. On the NFL channel the other day, they said that Jax signed him after giving him permission to seek a trade and could shop him around now that he is under contract.

Good call. Washington keeps mortgaging their future draft picks with some questionable moves. Oakland.....well, it's all Al Davis.

David Garrard........yuck.....I am still smelling Scott Mitchell here......I'd really rather have a 6th or 7th round project as #3 QB

My favorite day ever as a Lions fan.
Somehow landing the Ndamo-nator would be the second best day ever.

Garrard lit us up... which is why there is interest in him.
Personally, I don't see it happening.

Why would we trade for a 3rd stringer?? It makes no damn sense.

Well no, he was Leftwhich's back up. He went 19 for 36, 198 yards and 2 TDs against the Lions last season (1 of the 2 games he started). He ran 7 times for 42 yards. He's not bad, but he's no backup like Billy Volek is! That's the kid we should have tried trading for!
