Makes me wonder what other trades might be in the offing. Also wondering if they feel Sims' position will be filled by someone already on the roster or who they might have targeted in the draft.
Have to admit, been a fun and interesting offseason

I would've liked to get 5th round pick for him but Scheffler can play.
best of luck Ernie. You still have great potential

Supposedly the Lions also get a 7th round pick from Denver.

He's a good fit for the Eagles

Color me confused. Are the Lions going to be employing a bunch of two tightend looks in the offense? What exactly did we draft Pettigrew at #20 for last year? Did Sims fall that far out of favor when we need LB's? Does this mean we are now targeting Weatherspoon at #34?
It is being reported the Eagles are giving Denver a 3rd round pick, so I guess the value of Sims had slipped much more than I thought.

It looks like Weatherspoon might be the guy at 34. Giving Philly Sims means there's another team out of the running to take him, but that still leaves NE, Indy, and NO who might take a shot at him. I'd love to get 'Spoon, and I think with this move LB is now a close second to the most significant position of need for the Lions to address on Friday/Saturday.

I think is Weatherspoon was there at #34 were would have targeted him regardless.

I'm totally baffled about this trade... I'm not seeing how another TE (insurance is my best guess) is better than a LB that might start for us. I'm just confused... even with a 7th rounder...

I just don’t get this trade at all for us. This also makes me concerned that Brandon Pettigrew is in worse shape than we thought. It seems like we have made another hole for ourselves. Unless either Follet or Landon step up.

This is exactly what I thought when I read this.

I don't necessarily understand it either, but it makes me believe that Pettigrew's recovery is going slower then expected and the Lions need someone to play TE for the first few weeks of the season until Pettigrew is ready to return. If he isn't ready for the start of the season this is a good insurance policy. Now, only getting Scheffler and a 7th rounder for Sims seems like we got ripped off.
