Justin Durant, Tony Scheffler still out during Detroit Lions Friday practice

ALLEN PARK -- It looked exactly like Thursday when it came to player participation at Detroit Lions practice on Friday.

Linebacker Justin Durant (concussion), tight end Tony Scheffler (concussion) and safety Vincent Fuller (elbow) remained the only three players sidelined during the open portion of practice viewed by the media.

Durant has missed the last two games after suffering a concussion late in the Lions win over the Minnesota Vikings in Week 3. He returned to the practice field late last week, but was scratched from Monday night's game against the Bears when concussion-like symptoms returned.

Scheffler suffered his injury Monday when Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher hit him going across the middle of the field on a third-down reception. On Thursday, the Lions re-signed tight end Joe Jon Finley as insurance if Scheffler has to miss any games.

Wide receiver Rashied Davis was on the practice field for the second day in a row after missing three weeks with a foot injury, but didn't participate in special teams drills likely indicating he'll be a limited participant in today's activities.

The Lions will release their final injury report before Sunday's game with the 49ers between 4-5 p.m. today.

Here's the story on Best:

Detroit Lions running back Jahvid Best suffered concussion vs. 49ers

Detroit Lions running back Jahvid Best suffered his second concussion of the season in Sunday's 25-19 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

Best's last carry came with 10:20 to play when he was stopped for a one-yard loss. He stayed in the game the next two plays before giving way to Maurice Morris for the Lions' final three series.

Best stayed on the Lions sidelines with his helmet off after he left the game. ProFootballTalk.com reported last month that the NFL sent a memo to teams reminding them that "if a player is diagnosed with a concussion and removed from a game, he must leave the field and be immediately escorted to the locker/training room" with no exceptions.

Lions spokesman Bill Keenist said in a text this morning that Best's "concussion symptoms didn't manifest themselves until after the game."

Best, who carried 12 times for 37 yards and caught six passes for 73 yards, also suffered a concussion in the Lions' second preseason game against the Cleveland Browns and missed one week, and a concussion history in college at Cal.

Lions coach Jim Schwartz did not address Best's concussion specifically after the game, but when asked about defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch's health said, "You guys know me with injuries. We'll see where all of them are, but I think we're OK."

Lawrence Jackson finished the game at right defensive end in place of Vanden Bosch, who was having his neck/shoulders worked on by Lions trainers.

Two other Lions missed Sunday's game with concussions. Linebacker Justin Durant missed his third straight game with a concussion he suffered while covering a punt against the Minnesota Vikings, and Tony Scheffler went to the hospital after the Lions' Monday night win over the Chicago Bears with a concussion.

Why not get on the phone with the Browns and see what they'll take for Hillis. They have said he's not on the block, but this is Mayhew's thing. It wouldn't hurt to have another very good RB.

Can't be sure what's going to happen with our backs. Both might come back fine or they don't. I'm even saying that Best will be out at all, but damn those concussions are piling up.

Hillis got hurt this week. He's scheduled for an MRI. He's not that great. He had a good run at the start of last year, then tailed off as the season went along and hasn't done much of anything since then. Plus, he wants a big payday and won't get it here.

Didn't he rush for more than 1,000 yds. last year? We haven't had a back do that since Barry(I think)

If not Hillis let's check into Tolbert. Just some ideas just in case.

There's a rumor that Tashard Choice is on the block. I wouldn't mind seeing the Lions make a play for him. He's a good back, IMO.

That would be a much smarter move than Hillis. I've heard rumblings that St. Louis would be willing to move Steven Jackson but I don't know what his salary looks like this year.
