 Lions trade for Ronnie Brown
Just heard on FM 97.1. Supposedly, they gave up Jerome Harrison and a 7th round pick.

PFT wrote: Eagles trade Ronnie Brown to Lions Posted by Michael David Smith on October 18, 2011, 4:08 PM EDT Getty ImagesRonnie Brown’s stay with the Dream Team didn’t last long.
Brown, the running back who signed a one-year contract with the Eagles in August, has been traded to the Lions for running back Jerome Harrison and a 2013 seventh-round draft pick, according to multiple reports.
Although Brown has played all six games for the Eagles this year, he hasn’t done much: He has just 38 yards on 13 carries, and his most notable play was a bizarre fumble that cost the Eagles dearly in their loss to the 49ers.
Harrison, who also played briefly for the Eagles last year, has 41 yards on 14 carries this season for the Lions.

 Re: Lions trade for Ronnie Brown
Could be a good move. Brown is a powerful runner, and was once a really solid RB. Guess we'll see.

I think this is a great move. Mayhew strikes again at the trade deadline. I mentioned in the "trade possibility" thread that he pulled off the Roy Williams trade at the last minute as well. In exchange for Harrison and a 7th? This is a no-brainer.

Hope he has something left in the tank at 29. His ypc has been slipping:
2009 = 4.4 2010 = 3.7 2011 = 2.9
The Eagles are pretty astute about trading players right after they have "lost it" so my expectations are pretty low.

I'll be interested to hear what Philly sports radio has to say about this. Me thinks they won't be too happy.

 Re: Lions trade for Ronnie Brown
Good trade IMO. Williams was taking over the role we THOUGHT Harrison was going to have in Detroit when he came here, and let's face it, Brown was an afterthought in Philly. There's no way he was going to take a lot of carries away from LeShaun McCoy. All in all I like the move.

I wonder if this trade was sparked by or included talk over Samuel too. I wasn't very high on the idea of getting him though.

The Eagles are pretty astute about trading players right after they have "lost it" so my expectations are pretty low. The Eagles OL, IMO, has been horrid! I like the move. Love it actually! I think he will be able to come in and do something here, and we really gave up nothing to get him. How long is his contract for? Did this move free up money for Phili to make another move? Get someone in return for Samuel, or allow them to move him? Just wondering if the trades are connected in any way...

Well, since the trade deadline already passed and he hasn't been traded (that I know of), it would seem the answer is no.

The Eagles are pretty astute about trading players right after they have "lost it" so my expectations are pretty low. The 2011 stats are based only on 13 carries, so it is difficult to find significance there. Brown managed 3.7/carry last year on 200 carries. By comparison, Jahvid Best managed 3.2/carry last year on 171 carries. Brown will turn 30 in December--age is always a red flag for RBs--but he played all 16 games last year. He's not a long-term answer at RB but he should be able to contribute right now, and that's what we need. He played for Scott Linehan as a rookie in Miami so he should pick up the system quickly.
