I was thinking the same thing.
Also, it's not always dancing. There was one (in grand central station I think) where people just froze wherever they were at a certain time. I personally think it's interesting to see how much people commit to it and the reaction of people around them. Kind of an interesting and harmless social experiment. This flash mob is simply to celebrate our Detroit teams, especially the Lions and Red Wings who both play later that day. We'll do a short 2 min 30 sec dance to Kid Rock's Born Free then clear out. We won't be interrupting anyone's day, it's on a Sunday during tailgating. And it will be fun!
