Scott Linehan could depart for Washington State
Detroit Free Press wrote: Lions' offensive coordinator Scott Linehan leading candidate for Washington State coaching job 8:28 AM, Nov. 30, 2011 | By Dave Birkett
Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Scott Linehan has been mentioned as a leading candidate for the head-coaching job at Washington State.
Linehan, a Washington native, played collegiately at Idaho and spent the early part of his coaching career in the Pacific Northwest. He was offensive coordinator at Washington from 1996-98, but has spent the last decade in the NFL.
Mike Leach is reportedly the leading candidate to take over for Paul Wulff, who was fired Tuesday. But Linehan is one of five other candidates named by the Seattle Times and one of three possible replacements named on Twitter by Seattle radio host Ian Furness.
In three seasons with the Lions, Linehan has overseen an offense that’s improved from one of the worst scoring units in the NFL to the fourth-highest at 28.7 points per game.
Linehan went 11-25 in parts of three tumultuous seasons as head coach of the St. Louis Rams.

Would be interesting to see how they would handle replacing him. I don't think there are any clear members of the offensive staff who could get the job done, so we'd have to go outside the organization.

What about Jeff Fisher? Atleast he likes to run the ball

I was only kidding in bringing up Turner's name (given that he'll likely be the next NFL coach fired this year) but he is a solid OC. Hopefully they'll keep the existing scheme in place for the sake of consistency. And technically, yes, Turner and Martz both use the Coryell system but Turner doesn't operate the same as Martz.

I wonder if Linehan is looking for head coach opportunities on the college level? He may not get another shot in the NFL so if he wants to be a head coach, I'd imagine we'll hear his name mentioned often in connection with college jobs. http://www.freep.com/article/20111130/SPORTS01/111130009/Lions-offensive-coordinator-Scott-Linehan-leading-candidate-Washington-State-coaching-job
