'Madden 13:' Rodgers and Johnson advance

It's getting serious, folks.

In results we learned a short time ago, two NFC North players are among the final eight candidates for the cover of "Madden 13." Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Detroit Lions receiver Calvin Johnson have each advanced to the third round of voting. Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen lost handily in the second round to New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski.

Rodgers now faces Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice for a chance to reach the semifinals. Johnson will take on Gronkowski in voting that will take conclude April 11. We'll then spend a week on the semifinals and another week on the finals before we learn the winner on or around April 25. Time to get out your voodoo dolls.

Don't tempt fate!!

I'm personally voting for Aaron Rogers to win it all. LOL.

CJ knocked of Gronk and is now in the final four with Newton, Rodgers and Willis.

I'm predicting Cam Newton. I think I'm ok with that.

he would be the most likley to get injured IMO. Nothing against him but running QB's do get hurt quite often.

Guys, sorry to say it, but I think it's pretty obvious CJ is gonna win this thing.

Man you guys are pussies. Wouldn't you want CJ to be the one to break the curse? (Which is fake/made up) That would be the ultimate badass statement.

But I think Cam will win it all anyway, and mobile QBs have a higher probability to get hurt.

Or, he'll not get hurt and everyone will think that much higher of him, thus eclipsing his already super-power status. Unreal.

Vote Willis! :<

Well, since I don't play video games and have never played Madden, I could really care less about the game. I just don't want any part of the curse that, you can dent all you want, But, it is uncanny how consistently the player on the cover gets hurt or has a season like Peyton Hillis just had.

Calvin Johnson heading to Bristol

Here's a fun April sidelight for Detroit Lions fans: Receiver Calvin Johnson is visiting ESPN Headquarters on Tuesday for a full day of interviews and appearances. Keeping in mind that television/radio/internet schedules are subject to change, here is the tentative plan for when you will be able to see/hear/read about him.

As always, all times are ET. Availability in parenthesis. •10:45 a.m.: SportsCenter (ESPN)
•11:15 a.m.: "The Herd with Colin Cowherd" (ESPN Radio/ESPNews)
•11:40 a.m.: First Take (ESPN2)
•12:40 p.m.: SportsCenter (ESPN)
•1:15 p.m.: ESPN.com Chat
•1:45 p.m.: Scott Van Pelt Show (ESPN Radio/ESPNEWS)
•3:15 p.m.: SportsCenter (ESPNews)
•4 p.m.: NFL Live (taped for ESPN)
•5 p.m.: SportsNation (ESPN2)
•6 p.m.: NFL32 (ESPN2)

Thanks to Bill Hofheimer of ESPN Communications for passing along the schedule. I'll post whatever clips are available Tuesday.

Well he's not going to say he's afraid of the curse...

I would. I'd say "Forget that. I'm going to be a part of my team's super bowl run this year, not watching it on the sideline."

Cure for the curse

Lions receiver Nate Burleson believes in the Madden cover curse, but he's still voting for teammate Calvin Johnson to grace the game's cover.

"I do believe in the curse, but there are certain curses that can be erased with dollar signs," Burleson said, laughing. "If anyone can break the curse it's Calvin. This dude is a monster. He's strong enough to break tackles and he's strong enough to break this curse."

Johnson is one of four finalists. The winner will be announced Wednesday.
