Steve Pate, reports for the Oakland Press, Detroit Lions WR/KR Eddie Drummond remains the team's only unsigned free agent. He's a restricted free agent with a $1.4 million tender offer on the table. The window has closed for other teams to offer contracts to restricted free agents so Drummond will remain a Lion with or without a new multi-year deal.

This is kind of strange.

Obviously he remains a Lion for a year but clearly that's all the Lions wanted out of him until he proves he can stay healthy.

Bottom line - I'm glad he's still with the team. He's fun to watch!!

To me, it's a perfect situation. It's too late for another team to make an offer, so he will be a Lion. He won't be paid what he probably feels he deserves, but I don't think he will leave 1.4 on the table. So, he will play and, if he stays healthy, he will play very well in an attampt to get the deal he wants next year, either with the Lions or another team. If he doesn't stay healthy, we didn't throw millions away.

We should try and groom an eventual replacement. He never seems to stay healthy so I would be very hesitant to lock up big time money in a multi-year deal for a player that is both consistently injured and continually at high risk for a career ending injury. It is damn hard to make your money as an undrafted rookie, and it is hard to make a team as a KR. Drummond has to make the most of what little leverage he has, but it looks like the tender and out from where I am sitting.

I agree with ya there Yorick... We need to groom someone to replace him in case of injury.. but WHY HAS HE NOT SIGNED YET?? as far as I know and understand the Lions Essentially own him and 1.4 million is not exactly bad money for a return guy... that only returns the football...

Somebody please enlighten me, why has Drummond been holding out on signing but not in mini camp... ??

Drummond wants a multi-year deal and he isn't going to get one. I believe that is a wise move by Millen. Drummond has gotten injured every year, and the Lions shouldn't part with any signing bonus money to keep Eddie around until he proves he can stay healthy. I would have preferred the Lions had kept Reggie Swinton around as the fifth receiver and backup return specialist. Drummond should accept his $1.38 million and be damn thankful he is getting that much this year. Return specialists don't often get paid like that.
