I won't disagree that the bad play from the LBs hasn't helped, but they aren't exactly set up to succeed either. It would be hard for any LB when your entire Dline over-penetrates and then you have to face the entire opposing offensive line at the second level.

Schwartz and Mayhew have taken the wide-9 to the extreme and have put smaller quicker guys at 4 spots. They have turned it into a pass rush only formation while still using it on running downs. It was a way to maximize ability in Tenn, but in DET it has has turned into something that maximizes deficiencies.

I am hoping that Schwartz recent comments show that their hard stance on the wide-9 in earlier interviews was just him trying to save face and their actions during the season will show them correcting the obvious mistakes they have made by moving away from their dedication to the formation.
