Re: William Clay Ford has died
This is sad news. I am ashamed to admit, that there was a time, before I became a Christian, that I wanted him to die so the Lions might actually start winning. How, convoluted was that? He was a good man. He just wasn't a good football guy. RIP WCF.

It must have just happened. I can't find anything, anywhere about it yet. Just got this passed to me by a friend: Quote: Michael Schottey @schottey

William Clay Ford DETROIT -
A Detroit Lions source confirms that team owner and chairman William Clay Ford, Senior, died on Sunday.
Ford, 88, purchased a controlling interest in the team in 1963. Detroit won one playoff game over the Dallas Cowboys in 1991, and made 10 playoff appearances during his tenure.
Ford received a Bachelor of Science from Yale University in 1949. He had four children, Martha, Sheila, Elizabeth, and Lions Vice Chairman William Jr., with his wife Martha. The two were married since 1947.

Re: William Clay Ford has died
My sympathies and heart go out to the family.
That being said I find it slightly interesting that Ford owned the Lions from 1964 - 2014. That's 50 years and there has been much made of the 50 year curse of Lions futility. Yes, I know it's nothing and everyone will bash me even mentioning. But you have to admit though that it's just a little odd those numbers matched.

Re: William Clay Ford has died
Yes, prayers to the family. He was almost 89, so I think it is safe to say he got his money's worth out of life. If I make it to 89, I would certainly say that about me. You know, I never complained about him as an owner, a lot of people did, and will continue to, but I never questioned his desire to win. He was a good man, ran a good company, and paid a fair wage from everything I hear. RIP

Just thought of something, we going to get cheerleaders now?

How many Super Bowls have the Lions won without cheerleaders? Extra motivation cannot be underestimated... Do the Seahawks and Broncos both have cheerleaders? Yes they do my friend!!! Legalize pot in Michigan and add cheerleaders - the Lions will be SB bound and if not, well at least the ride will be much more fun...

Or it will lead to more distractions, dropped passes, and deflated stats.

Re: William Clay Ford has died
He was one of the worst owners in the history of sports.
He was born into privilege, and never had to work for a thing in his life.
He didn't meaningfully contribute to his family's wealth, nor did he undertake any major philanthropic activities (maybe I'm wrong, but I've never heard of anything substantial).
So, while I'm not actively happy about his passing or something, I'm not exactly unhappy either. The only way this guy impacted my life was by delivering a consistently ****y football team to occasionally ruin my Sundays. Maybe that'll change now that he's dead, but I feel like Jr has been pulling the strings for quite some time anyway.
