Post Lions Draft picks signed contacts
Let's post the signing of our draft picks here:

Caraun Reid the first Detroit Lions draft pick to sign; more coming very soon

The Detroit Lions signed their first of eight draft picks today, defensive tackle Caraun Reid, and more deals should be coming soon.

Reid's agent, Mike McCartney, announced Reid's deal on Twitter.

As the 158th pick in the draft, Reid will receive a four-year deal similar to the $2.3 million pact tight end Luke Willson got from the Seattle Seahawks last year.

All rookie contracts are slotted.

The Lions also are on the verge of signing deals with sixth-round pick T.J. Jones and seventh-rounder Nate Freese.

Last year, the Lions signed their entire draft class before the start of rookie minicamp, and they're expected to do the same this year. Rookie camp begins Friday.

A handful of first-round picks already are under contract across the league, including Khalil Mack of the Oakland Raiders and Corey Fuller of the Chicago Bears.

Eric Ebron, the Lions' first-rounder, will get a four-year deal worth about $12.2 million with a team option for a fifth year.

I love that the rookies are signing contracts much sooner and that the cba made their deals far more affordable.

We're going to have to clear some cap space, about $5M (edited to correct: we will need $6M for their deals but only about $3 of actual cap space so we need to clear only about $2M), to fit all the rookies under the cap. This is where a Suh contract would come in handy, but I doubt it'll get done in the next few days so we're looking at some simple restructures probably on CJ or Stafford.

OR the Lions could choose to release some players to open up some cap space and allow for room on the 90 man roster.

I'm just saying what they're likely to do, not what I approve of. Who else are they going to release? Already trimmed the roster down to 90 (including unsigned draft picks) and there's nobody that we don't need that could save us enough room. Who would you cut?

Good God, let it go. He wasn't that bad, and nobody expected him to be thrust into a starting role. There are plenty of other receivers in the league that are MUCH higher paid that dropped more passes.

Lions sign Nevin Lawson, TJ Jones

Signing draft picks is a relatively uncomplicated process these days, leaving some teams with all or most of their draft picks signed a little more than a week after the draft.

That group includes the Lions, who have signed five of their eight selections. Fourth-round cornerback Nevin Lawson and sixth-round wide receiver TJ Jones have joined three of their new teammates with newly signed four-year pacts.

Lawson started 40 games at Utah State and picked off four passes in 2013 on his way to Detroit. Lawson’s 5-9 and his height may work against him in some areas, but the Lions’ cornerback depth chart is written in pencil with Chris Houston coming off toe surgery so he should get a chance to earn playing time over the offseason.

Jones had 181 catches and 19 touchdowns during his career at Notre Dame and should work right into the competition for snaps alongside Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate. A slot role is probably his best bet to do that, with Ryan Broyles looking like the other chief aspirant for that role.

Details on Webster, Freese, Reid contracts
May, 19, 2014
By Michael Rothstein | ESPN.com

Now that they have been drafted and are already in Detroit, the Lions have begun to sign those draft picks. Five of them signed last week -- leaving only Eric Ebron, Kyle Van Noy and Travis Swanson without deals as of noon on Monday.

Some of the details of the contracts that have been signed are now out.

For fourth-round defensive tackle Larry Webster, he has a signing bonus of $300,584 -- his only guaranteed money. His base salary will be $420,000 in 2014, $510,000 in 2015, $600,000 in 2016 and $690,000 in 2017. The more important number -- the cap number -- will be $495,146 in 2014, $585,146 in 2015, $675,146 in 2016 and $765,146 in 2017.

His dead money portion of the deal -- which starts as $300,584 in 2014 -- will drop by $75,146 from that number in each year.

Caraun Reid, the fifth-round defensive tackle out of Princeton, had the same base salary numbers as Webster, but a signing bonus of $188,880. This leaves him with cap numbers of $467,220 in 2014, $557,220 in 2015, $647,220 in 2016 and $737,220 in 2017. The dead money on Reid's contract starts at the guaranteed number of $188,880 and drops by $47,220 each year.

Kicker Nate Freese, signed in the seventh round, has the same base deal as Webster and Reid, but his signing bonus -- and only guaranteed money -- was $59,424. That leaves his cap numbers at $434,856 in 2014, $524,856 in 2015, $614,856 in 2016 and $704,856 in 2017. His dead money in his contract starts at $59,424 and drops $14,856 every year.

Salaries used in this post came from ESPN Stats & Information.

It is shaping up to be a big week for rookie linebacker Kyle Van Noy.

It is shaping up to be a big week for Kyle Van Noy.

Van Noy is set to marry fiancee and former Miss Utah Marrisa Powell this weekend, but first, the Detroit Lions second-round pick put a little money in his pocket by signing his four-year rookie contract Wednesday evening.

Van Noy’s deal is estimated to be worth around $5.1 million with a $2 million signing bonus, per the rookie wage scale.

He’s expected to have an immediate impact for the Lions this year competing for the starting strong side linebacker spot, a versatile and important position in defensive coordinator Teryl Austin’s new defense.

As a senior at BYU last year, Van Noy recorded 67 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, four sacks, two interceptions and a touchdown.

He finished his career with 61.5 tackles for loss, 26 sacks, 21 passes defended, 11 forced fumbles and five touchdowns.

Van Noy's signing leaves only first-round pick (No. 10 overall) Eric Ebron left unsigned from the teams' eight draft selections.
