Post 2014 Season Schedule
Week 1: vs New York Giants on Monday Night Football
Week 2: at Carolina
Week 3: vs. Green Bay
Week 4: at New York Jets
Week 5: vs. Buffalo
Week 6: at Minnesota
Week 7: vs. New Orleans
Week 8: Atlanta in London
Week 9: Bye
Week 10: vs. Miami
Week 11: at Arizona
Week 12: at New England
Week 13: vs. Chicago (Thanskgiving)
Week 14: vs. Tampa Bay
Week 15: vs. Minnesota
Week 16: at Chicago
Week 17: at Green Bay

So Dave Birkett posted this schedule after word leaked about the Giants-Lions MNF opener. I'm wondering if this can be right considering the Lions Thanksgiving game was supposed to be on CBS this year and would have to feature an AFC team. Nice bye week at 9, but again ending the season with 3 division games and 2 out in the cold.

Why the eff are we almost ALWAYS in GB at or near the end of the season!?!? On the brighter side, I like that the bye is in a good spot.

vs NYG, @Carolina... two QB's coming off ankle surgery... D-line should have a field day, especially home on MNF.

Post Re: 2014 Season Schedule
Let me predict as Billy would before he does (or starts to revise them as the season starts)...

Week 1: vs New York Giants - W, at home on MNF, Ford Field be rocking
Week 2: at Carolina - W, no Steve Smith, no problem
Week 3: vs. Green Bay - W, Pack start slow
Week 4: at New York Jets - W, big QB controversy by now in Big Apple
Week 5: vs. Buffalo - W, Bills suck
Week 6: at Minnesota, W, AP hurt, rookie QB starting
Week 7: vs. New Orleans, W, revenge for 2011 playoff loss plus our OC knows them well
Week 8: Atlanta in London, W, longer road trip from ATL than DET
Week 9: Bye
Week 10: vs. Miami, Staff will tear Delmas up
Week 11: at Arizona, W, no QB means trouble in dessert
Week 12: at New England, L, Brady went to UofM
Week 13: vs. Chicago (Thanskgiving), W, eating Bear for Turkey Day
Week 14: vs. Tampa Bay, W, no Lovie for Bucs
Week 15: vs. Minnesota, W, Vikes already out of playoffs quit
Week 16: at Chicago, W, CJ holds on thru the catch
Week 17: at Green Bay, L, we never win there

final prediction 14-2!

looking at the schedule, 11-5 is very realistic. BUT....so is 5-11....Damn Lions!

I seriously would not be shocked if we started 5-1. heck even the GB game at home is winnable. The question is (and has always been, and will always be) who shows up? The Good Lions? or the Bad Lions?

With this group its very likely they go 6-2 into the bye then 1-7 after the bye.

Good luck on those predictions. LOL. As far as my revisions of my predictions, I always revise them well in advance. And usually, it is to change from a loss to a win.

My only problem with this schedule is the back to back Chicago and. Green Bay road games in late December. I don't remember that ever happening before. One of them was always early and the other late season and usually flipped back and forth every other season.

I will wait till after the draft to predict but I definetely sense a week 1 beat down of the Giants to stir the Kool-aid.

It's also an opportunity for the Lions to really toughen up, man up, win both games on the road, and take the NFC North in a dominant fashion. If Caldwell can turn them around, it could be a coming out party. Who knows? Maybe we'll really enjoy those two weeks and look back upon them as some of the Lions' finest moments.

This is an interesting article breaking down the strength of schedule (sos) for each team.

http://fivethirtyeight.com/datalab/which-nfl-teams-really-have-the-toughest-and-easiest-schedules-in-2014/

It's not the standard sos that looks only at the past year's record. Rather, this uses a bunch of statistical techniques to try to arrive at the actual sos. This is from the fivethirtyeight website, which if you haven't seen it, is fantastic. It's run by Nate Silver (the guy who used statistical techniques to predict the last 2 presidential elections almost perfectly), and for stat/data geeks like me, it's a great site.

The most interesting part of the article (for those that don't care to read it all) is this chart showing the calculated sos vs the official NFL sos.

As you can see, Detroit is dead in the middle of the pack. It'll be interesting to see how it all plays out.
