DETROIT -- The Detroit Lions have made a couple moves with a few days to go before their preseason opener.

Detroit has signed cornerback Tramain Jacobs and wide receiver Dez Stewart, the team announced Tuesday. To make room, the Lions cut cornerback Des Lawrence and wide receiver Ryan Spadola.

Jacobs, 25, comes to the Lions most recently from the Canadian Football League, where he played with the Toronto Argonauts last season. Before that, the 5-foot-11-inch, 195-pounder spent time with the Oakland Raiders, New York Giants and Baltimore Ravens after joining Baltimore as an undrafted free agent out of Texas A&M in 2014. He has played in eight games as a special teamer.

Stewart, 24, was most recently a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Ohio Dominican product was also an undrafted free agent, joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2016. Measuring 6 feet 2 inches and 200 pounds, he has also spent time with the Washington Redskins and Green Bay Packers.

Lawrence suffered an injury in the Lions mock game Saturday at Ford Field, where he was carted off. Lions coach Jim Caldwell refused to give any update on his status Sunday, two days before the team released him.

Spadola was getting lost in a deep battle for backup receiver spots. Jared Abbrederis, Jace Billingsley and T.J. Jones are all competing for the fourth receiver spot behind third-round rookie Kenny Golladay, and undrafted rookies Noel Thomas and Dontez Ford have drawn some strong reviews in camp as well.

I know these guys are likely camp fodder, but you never know who might push for a final roster spot.
