At least the Lions started competing in the 2nd quarter. But, it looks like another year where they don't show up at the start of the game. They will beat the bad teams. But, get their asses handed to them by the good teams.

Yeah, because every good team they play is at the level of the Pats. This game doesn't say anything more than the last 2 games against really bad teams did. No one is making adjustments or trying to disguise defenses. It's vanilla football and it's against the NFL's best QB. We won't know anything about the team until a few weeks into the season, once teams have film to gameplan and the Lions have had time to settle in.

Tom Brady doesn't play on the Patriots defense. It was a pre season game for them also. The 3rd pre season game to be exact. You know, the one that teams are supposed to act like it is a regular season game? And I seen the same old fall into a deep pit and then attempt to claw our way back out. It was a pre season game for them too. Which one looked like a championship caliber team to you? It wasn't the Lions. This team was out played from the first kickoff until the rookies took over.

They got torched its not a good sign. We can chalk it up to being preseason, the Pats being among the NFL elite, or whatever other excuse but its just that. The Lions have a long way to go and approach the season with major problems on the offensive line, defensive line, being average at the offensive skill positions and inexperienced at LB. It appears this is no better than an average NFL roster albeit with a good amount of promising and cheap young depth. If Quinn goes out and lands Leveon Bell and a premium passrusher next season with Decker getting healthy - that makes a lot of problems go away. Until then, this is just a middle of the pack squad.

The weak d line may mske jarrad look like a rookie more often then we want. Still think were talented enough to sneak into the playoffs cant see is unseating the packers without a pass rush

The team getting worked over obviously isn't a good thing, but it's only a sign that they aren't at an elite level like the Pats. They had no problem against the bottom of the league in the past 2 weeks and all that said was the team should be at least average. They could be better than last year or they could be about the same, but we won't be able to really tell until they play the teams that are in the tier below the Pats. We need to see them against teams like the Panthers, Packers, Vikings, and Cowboys. Those teams will give a better idea of whether the Lions have improved or not. I was under no impression this team was going to be competing with the elites, I'm just looking to see if they are finally ready to take wins against playoff level teams.

Also for the Pats game specifically, it was really only one horrid quarter. They were starting to get it together in the 2nd, it wasn't terrible the whole time the starters were on the field. It was a good example of what happens when you turnover the ball early against an elite team. It was something the Pats would have done to pretty much any team if given that early turnover. They grabbed the momentum and rode it for most of the first half of the game. We saw the Pats do the same thing to the Falcons in the second half of the Super Bowl.
