Post Atlanta @ Detroit.
3 weeks ago, you would not have heard me say this. I think this game has the potential to be a franchise turning point. The seminal win that announces to the world that there is a new big boy on the block. I grossly underestimated the Lions this year. I was disgusted by what I seen in weeks 3 and 4 of the preseason. I didn't care if we won them or not. I just wanted to see the Lions look like they were capable of competing. And I just didn't see it.

So now, I sit here wondering if this is the same get our hopes up just to get a reality check. But, if the Lions win this Sunday.... the sky is the limit. They would become the clear cut favorite for the 1 seed.

I was stunned today. I heard some talking head on the radio mention how this weeks Atlanta vs. Detroit game could be a preview of the NFC Championship game. I was like, I am in uncharted territory here. I don't know what to think about that.

I am trying to not drink the kool aid though. If we win this Sunday, it will be very hard to not take a sip.

I don't see them beating Atlanta, they have to many weapons on offense. The defense has looked good, but now they will most likely be missing Davis at MLB and Whitehead/Worrilow have both looked suspect. IMO Slay is going to have major trouble with Julio Jones and without Davis their run game could make things even harder for the DBs. Even with the Falcons missing two of their best defensive players, I don't think the Lions offense has been consistent enough to keep up with Atlanta in a shootout. The good thing about this game is that as long as they make it out healthy, losing this game doesn't say to much about the Lions. With wins against ARI and NYG they have already started to show they could be a playoff threat and they could look even better late in the season.

I think they have a chance, but I'm not going to be upset if they lose. Winning would be big because ATL squeaked out wins vs Chicago and GB, so the NFC tiebreak would be in our favor, but it's still early so not that huge now. It depends on which defense gets the most turnovers and which can get the most stops. It's definitely a winnable game.

The Lions have a chance. The Atlanta defense has good team speed but Stafford can beat a lot of that with his arm and with how quickly he tends to get the ball out. Playcalling probably needs to be more aggressive and the Lions need to learn how to put teams away - maybe something Caldwell doesnt believe in. Defensively I think the Lions back 7 depth is better than in past years. Davis in my opinion hasnt been anything special and I dont see him being out making it an unwinnable game. The Lions will be in mostly 3 CB sets, Killebrew has shown he can be your pass down LB with decent run defense and Diggs is one of the better run support nickel corners around. Julio Jones is a problem for any defense so that will be a key matchup seeing how the Lions try to cover him.

I want a win so bad, but I just don't see it. I don't believe in our D yet, especially with Davis out and JMR at the will while Whitehead mans the Mike.

I'm actually surprised to see as many writers picking the kitties. ATL has one of the best WRa and QBs in the league...and they're both healthy. Lions haven't dealt with that yet. Also, their D is very good and very fast. lions haven't dealt with that yet either. This week, We'll finally see our if ol Jimmy C deserves that extension.

Atlanta has a lethal offense but they struggled against Chicago on the road. Stafford is now being seen as a top 5 QB. He s been that good ever since Lombardi s been gone except for the few games with the finger injury. Some may even see Stafford as ahead of Matt Ryan as he s more athletic and has a bigger arm too. Stafford s ability to evade pressure is now a game changing factor, not quite Aaron Rodgers level but vastly improved to the point where s making 3-5 plays a game that would otherwise be coverage sacks or immediate sacks.

I still see the Falcons as more likely to win this game but am interested to see if a) caldwell lets the offense play from the beginning and b) how the lions fill in for injuries on defense- Maybin seems to be a much more instinctive run player than Davis but is behind in pass coverage. Killebrew cant completely fill that role bc Tavon Wilson is out so it could have the trickle down effect where Washington might get some major reps on that defense so Killebrew can be your coverage linebacker. Washington to me looks like he has a chance to be a solid starter but not sure he s ready to handle this yet. Also wonder if Tabor makes an appearance as a goalline corner with the Falcons having some big bodied wideouts.

Looks like a long shot w/o Davis and Wilson.

I really like Brett Kollmann's breakdown videos and he just did one on Stafford focusing on the match up with the falcons.

He's giving me a lot more hope for the game than I had initially going into this week.

Same here. Not sure if this guy is a Lions fan or not, but that video was pure Kool-Aid.

Vic Beasley out for the Falcons. Anyone think Greg Robinson slept a little better knowing that?

Down 3 starters this is going to be a tough game.

Davis being out it huge for out defense. He would have helped a lot in slowing down Freeman and Coleman. Wilson means we can't utilize our 3 safety looks. Killabrew has to slide into the starting spot and we lose some flexibility. I assume Glasgow will slide into the center spot, but who takes over at LG with Dahl also down? Could cause some issue against the Falcons D.

I'd love a win, I'm just skeptical of our chances this week.

Everything TJ Lang does in Detroit is a penalty. Same stuff he got away with when he was a Packer.
