On the "Inside the Lions" podcast, the hosts brought up the nightmare scenario: Belichick retires and Patricia becomes the head coach of NE. What would you do in that situation?

does it say anything that the Pats seemed to want to keep McDaniels much more than Patricia?

They didn’t have a score to settle with Detroit.

Interesting argument to throw out there, and maybe it does have some validity. But what is there to say that Pats didn't have a similar conversation with Patricia, but he decided that Detroit would be the better opportunity? Yet since it isn't a "scandal" or headline grabber, nobody brought it up.

Or maybe at the last minute, McDaniels had flashbacks to his first HC job and just didn't want to go through it again.

All in all, it is better we have a coach that is 100% committed to the team, and is willing to bet on his experience to to bring a team, the Lions, to the next level. Do we want someone who is portrayed as thinking "meh...maybe I should have stayed put".

I like the Colts "2nd Choice" as Frank Reich was a guy I liked for the Lions. Offensive minded coach who coached Payton Manning in Indy in his first stop as coach, he also did very well in San Diego where he made his way up to OC and did wonders obviously with the Eagles as OC. Former Lions backup QB has a pretty good coaching resume, will be interesting how he does in Indy. Having Luck at QB will be a big factor of course...

Assuming luck comes back healthy. Otherwise, that team is going nowhere. From the rumors and mixed updates were getting on luck, I wouldn’t bet on him returning to form soon.
