Well, better than last week but still not good.

I think the 49ers looked like a poor team. Still beat us, though.

Oh and the Jets got beat handily by the Dolphins …

Long season ahead. Still, nice to be interested in the game in the 4th quarter. That was a pleasant surprise.

Refs: not impressed. Slay takeout, with a lowered head, could have been an ejection but gets ignored. Ticky tacky possible hold on the other side of the field to the play gets called. Riddick catch that brushed the ground apparently not complete (vs the Jets rubbing the ball on the ground last week and getting the call). Ah well.

They looked like they caught their rhythm on both sides of the ball in the 4th. The pass rush also had a decent day, if stafford couldve hit a deep ball today this is a W. Patriots looked bad this week. Maybe it Carrie's over to next week. But it's more likely tom makes the D look like swiss cheese and we poop the bed again on prime time

Our run defense is piss poor. I'm not even sure either team we played has that great of a running game and we still made them look amazing. At least there are some Lions that can get to the QB that aren't named Ziggy.

Yeah, the run D still looks a mess. And Crowell went for about 120yds less on the same number of carries vs he Dolphins as he did vs us. Don’t think we’re facing killer run offenses, we just make em look that way.

Struggle to see us winning games other than in a shootout. And if that’s going to happen Stafford has to hit the deep shots when they’re there, and he missed yesterday. Unfair to put it all on him, but with the D line so badly neglected in the Quinn era I think Stafford needs to be near perfect with his arm to get us the wins.

Special teams still look a mess too.

On the plus side as you say, nice to see some pas rush, Gollady, Kennard, KJ and Hands look like they may have some talent. And the team didn’t quit this week, fought to the end.

Improved but really could they have been much worse. We saw how bad the Jets truly are this week, they looked awful. At least some signs of life this week but signs also point to an 1-4 or 0-5 start to the season.

Now that expectations have been tempered, 8-8 is the realistic best case scenario. We are in a good cap situation moving forward. Let's see if they can clean up the sloppiness, if Patricia's defense can be good if there is any resources put into the interior d line, and let's see if we can finally run the ball when we dont surrender double digit half time deficits.

As long as the team isnt a complete disaster this year a good overhaul in the offseason could put us where we need to be. But itd be nice if that was this season

Side note: ebron looks good for indy still unsure why we cut him after picking up the 5th year option

Good overhaul?

Quinn said earlier this year he finally has the roster how he wants it.

There is zero evidence that Quinn can make this team better. He's been going in circles the whole time. I support his plan to fix the line and run more, but he can't execute it.

The players he has chosen and signed don't perform any better than the starters he cast off. His best draft picks look like Glasgow and maybe Golliday. The rest are fairly underwhelming.

The coaching change isn't bearing any fruit either.

Martha got sold a bill of goods I think. 5 yr extensions all around. Nice work.

OK. Schwartz is fired, the fans are happy, now what?

It looked the Lions were going through the motions in the first half before they flat out took a nap in the 3rd quarter until the Blount ejection which sparked them. After that Stafford caught fire and they looked like a team for the first time in 6 performances under Coach Patricia. Was that for Coach Patricia or Stafford or just got everyone s adrenaline going? Whatever your answer at least it brought the team together. Nobody could condone what Blount did, but it really helped the team and was probably the most meaningful thing to come out of the game.

Stafford missed a lot of throws which isnt totally unusual for him but it seemed the Lions effort at getting the run game going took him out of rhythm. The run game shined early in the 3rd quarter but that was also on a drive where the OL blew any chances at a TD by getting back to back penalties into a 1st and 27. Other than that drive Blount had a 12 yard run in the first half and the rest of the runs were for 0-4 yards except a 3rd and long run to settle for a FG that went for 6 yards. Despite a rough first 3 quarters we cant entirely blame Stafford - he missed 4 deep throws yes but 2 of those drives still resulted in TDs and one in a FG. Not sure those misses mean all that much to the final outcome.

The Lions defense was once again gashed in the running game with its DL losing over and over at the point of attack and its supposedly QB of the defense missing tackles or failing to wrap up in the hole. Did they have a passrush or was Jimmy G holding onto the ball way too long. In my book 5 of the 6 Lions sacks were coverage sacks except for one of the 2 by Kennard. In the end the Lions made enough mistakes (penalties, Stafford holding onto the ball too long) to put the game in the refs hands at the end and couldnt pull it out.

Going forward, how do they fix the run defense that made Breida and even the Jets ho-hum committee look like stars? Still some big time star runners on the schedule with Jordan Howard, Dalvin Cook, Todd Gurley, Ezekiel Elliot, David Johnson and Christian McCaffrey all waiting there turns. That part of it could get ugly quick so the Lions need a lot more of whatever spark Blount gave the team to even look respectable.

The only way the run defense improves is if the coaches can get the players to start playing their gaps correctly and more disciplined. They are constantly bumping into each other, filling the same gap, or pulling a Davis and running through the hole and past the play. Honestly they may just need to take Davis out of the middle, even if he miraculously starts slowing down to fill his gap, he's so bad at shedding blocks he'll just get washed out if any blocker comes at him.

In the 2019 Draft I am praying that the Lions will only draft defensive players that realize that it's ok to use both arms when attempting to make a tackle. So many one armers that I wanted to puke!
