NFL ROUNDUP: Lions fullback charged with drunken driving

Lions fullback Stephen Trejo was charged in 35th District Court in Plymouth on Tuesday with a felony third offense of drunken driving and a misdemeanor of driving with a revoked license.

Trejo, 26, of Northville Township, was driving with a female passenger in a GMC Yukon when Northville police arrested him around 2:30 a.m. Nov. 7 after he made an illegal right turn at Novi and 8 Mile roads.

According to the police report, an officer said he smelled alcohol on Trejo's breath and tried to conduct a series of sobriety tests. Trejo complied with two of the required tests, but refused when asked to stand on one leg (citing a knee injury) and also refused to take a Breathalyzer test.

He told the officer he was only trying to get home safe, according to the police report. Police said Trejo finally agreed to take a Breathalyzer at the Northville police station; his tested blood alcohol content levels were 0.17 and 0.19 percent (the legal limit is 0.08).

Police also found that Trejo's Arizona license was revoked.

Trejo stood mute to the charges Tuesday and waived his right to a preliminary examination. He is scheduled to appear for an examination in 35th District Court in Plymouth on Dec. 17.

The felony charge carries a sentence of one to five years in prison, or probation and community service, and/or a $500-$5,000 fine. The misdemeanor charge carries a 90-day jail sentence and/or a $100 fine.

Trejo, who is from Arizona and attended Arizona State, was convicted of operating a vehicle while intoxicated in November 1999 in Tempe, Ariz., and in July 2002 after an arrest in Allen Park.

He played backup fullback for three years, and garnered notice this season when he stepped in for the injured Cory Schlesinger. Trejo, who also played on special teams, suffered an injured right knee Oct. 31 against Dallas.

The Lions cut him Sept. 5. He signed with the St. Louis Rams and was released, then re-signed with the Lions on Sept. 28.

Sad, sad, sad.

It sounds like he needs some help. So does this take him off the team?
