You know, weren't we talking at the beginning of the season, after the pre-season cuts, how it was a mistake to only keep 5 wide receivers on the roster? At the time it was Williams, Rogers, Hakim, Streets, and Drummond. Swinton was cut, but later brought back, I believe. Should have kept Scotty Anderson, I liked that guy. Although he didn't last with Arizona or Tampa Bay.

I always liked Scotty too, but considering that he didn't stick with anyone, maybe it was the right choice to let him go.

Receivers seem to be pretty fragile...it would be a suprise if Chuck made it through a full season, Roy spent some time injured, and Drummond as well. So if we stick with 5 we would left with Swinton and maybe Vines while expecting that Az and Kircus are gone. That's not a good situation so better to keep another guy around.

Scotty Anderson was pretty good here for the small expense. We saw him make some pretty good catches and some playmaking skills...whether he stuck in Arizona or Tampa doesn't really make a difference IMO unless he was out of shape or something. I saw get him on the super cheap...he has the ability.

Drummond value is as a return man so he's actually considered a specialist. He about as much of a wide reciever as Banta was TE.

Detroit will keep 5 actual wideouts around next year. After Rogers and Williams all positions are open.

Kircus, Vines and Swinton might all be brought back to compete for spots but that's about it. I wouldn't count on any of them actually being around until you find out who else the Lions are bringing in. None of them are that good that they already have a spot for next year.

the lions MUST get some talented athletes outside of the current organization...don't forget that these guys could not get in the game in lieu of the great bill shreoder. the leos have no ability to judge talent most of the veteran players that get cut by the lions end up out of the NFL...(fair/crowell)...but the young players stick /excel with other teams (mungro/couborne) ...i would like to see a professional rcvr like tim brown and a promissing player like dane looker on the roster and force either vines/swinton to compete for the last spot...and if you have to take the cap hit for az...make hime play

I don't mean to offend/insult any of the posters on here, but I can't believe some of you are seriously considering accepting our current #3/4/5 receivers as our roster lineup. Chuck and Roy will be a great combination and no one knows the future of Hakim/Streets, but I agree with most of you that they are both out of the picture. The Lions are not a team that produces talent from no-name players, and I for one am not happy with Scotty Vines or Eddie Drummond even being considered on the field as WRs. Drummond is on the roster regardless as he is an amazing returner, and keeping Swinton is important for backup duties as well as his flashes of receiver ability. I like to look at is as if we have 2 real receivers and are in search of a legitimate #3 and maybe drafting a late rounder to be a #4 or compete with Swinton. It's too much $ invested in WR to draft Mike Williams or Braylong Edwards if they fell to 10, so hopefully we'll get a trade down offer and can take a playmaking receiver in rounds 2-4. I feel lik eyou can't be too overloaded at the WR position, but I'm not ready to rely on the talent we have in house. I also agree with Mike in that the TE position is being overlooked, leading me to feel its becoming a glaring need in Lions camp. I do not suggest drafting Miller at #10 because I want Derrick Johnson or any other playmaker on defense, but I'd rather discuss that in a draft forum because I've wasted enough of everyones time with this long post as is.

lol...no that was a great point and a good post. But similarly you cannot have too many CBs...but you can however have too much money tied up in a position and that is the point. You need evaluate where money is best spent. We have more pressing needs elsewhere like safety and if an investment is made into a good TE then where are investing in our passing game.
