The hell? Why do they cut backs such as Cobourne for other guys that will be inactive half the time?

Ah damn, too late. Anyway, I personally think that this means Bryson will be moving to FB. He was a FB in college and can pass block well, catch balls well, and is pretty quick as a FB. I would like the move. If they don't move him, I don't see the point in signing White.

I think this is a nice move, a small step forward for us. White is not guaranteed anything, he will have to make the team. Creates a competition for Pinner, Bryson and even Paul Smith in camp. A chance to possibly upgrade our RB depth w/out going to the draft. Better than inviting guys like Autry Denson or drafting Luke Staley...

Looks like he is a kick returner too.

He was a RB for the Ravens. He's not too bad. I intitally was pissed by this, but he's an upgrade over Pinner IMO and I was never impresed with Cobourne. Either way, unless White bumps Pinner to #3 and Bryson moves to FB, I'm confused by this.

I've been thinking about this move. What it tells me is that the Lions are not happy with Pinner as the backup. His playing time decreased dramatically as the year went on and his chance to shine was early in the season when KJ was battling nagging injuries.

I don't see the Lions moving Bryson to FB, I think they are very happy with him as the third-down back.

There will be a battle between White in Pinner in training camp. There is a strong chance only one makes the rosters. If they are that concerned with Tose, they could also use a late round pick on a RB and let all 3 battle it out for the backup spot.

If the Lions were sold on Pinner, this move wouldn't have been made. Perhpas Millen can package him in a draft day deal???

They probably have doubts on Pinner but I think your sentiments are a bit strong...Seems like a competition type move to me. White could make the team w/ Pinner if they beat out Paul Smith and Bryson mops up the backup FB duties...

Maybe they just liked White better than Coburne or Olandis Gary. I don't think they're giving up on Pinner yet, he seems effective when he plays. He's just not as good as KJ

Why did the Lions sign Jamal White?

Conversion02 says to move Bryson to fullback, I can see that. I don't know Brysons current weight but he isn't afraid to go into the middle on short yardage. Why would he be afraid to block?

Pablo thinks that Pinner is toast. I agree. I don't know if Artrose Pinner got a fair shake but he did have a "full healty year " before KJ arrived.

Either way I don't have strong feelings about the move. At this point I'm willing to give Millen the benefit.
