That's a good point, but ytou also have to look at Cap Space. Do you want to take away 2.1 mil in cap space this year or take away just 1.05 mil in cap space next year?

I say drop him if the Lions have a replacement that is better, even then why not keep him just in case of injury?

Truthfully I'd rather take away the cap space this year. We have re-signed all of our top need free agents and have enough left to sign our draft picks. Next year three of our four DE's on the roster will be free agents, as well as Holmes, Garcia, Bryson, Pinner, Backus, Joyce, "Dirty" Davis, Holt and a host of other lesser players. We will DEFINITELY need the $1.05 million next year more than we'll need the $2.1 million this year.

Why would Sharper cost us so much against the cap? If he is an unrestricted Free Agent. Wouldn't it be the Texans that take the big hit? Is there a required salary that he would have to be paid? I'm lost, help me understand this please

The Texans only get nailed for any remaining allocated signing bonus for the contract Sharper signed. They are not responsible for any 2005 salary commitments and beyond. The Lions would get hit for any salary and signing bonus allocations, and Sharper won't come cheap if they were to sign him. It's a done deal though, because the Lions re-signed Wali Rainer and aren't looking to replace Holmes just yet.
