Tim Brown to retire as Raider

Tim Brown will sign a one-day contract with Oakland and retire as a Raider, the team said. Brown, 39, the 1987 Heisman Trophy winner, played 16 seasons for the Raiders before being released last August. He played for Tampa Bay last year.

Quiete a career he has had, eh?

Rice can still be a good receiver. I don't know why no one wanted him. If the Lions didn't acquire Kevin Johnson, I thought, what better way to develop the young receivers on this team than to bring in the greatest of all time.

Agreed!

Didn't he sign for the minimum or close to it anyway?

I wanted Rice all along, I think he would have made a great impression on our youngins and may have made an excellent receivers coach. Maybe it was a Mooch thing.

As for Tim Brown, he has been a class act his entire career....in spite of coming from Notre Dame.

I wish him well and look forward to seeing him inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Now, do you think that it is a given that he will be inducted in to the HOF??? Do you think he's a 1st ballot?? or will it take a few years??? Personally I think it will take a few years before he would be inducted, if at all. JMHO

No question that he is first ballot, IMO.

1094 receptions

14934 yards

100 TD's

Not as good as Rice, of course, but pretty good.

Does that one day deal mean he's playing 1 game or 1 day into training camp or what?

I think it just means that for 1-day only (not necessarily actually in training camp or anything) he will be a Raider and he will submit his retirement papers on that day.
