Cardinals WR Boldin hurt in practice
NFL.com wire reports

PRESCOTT, Ariz. (Aug. 4, 2005) -- Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin's nose was broken in practice.

It was the second training-camp injury for Boldin in as many years. This time, though, he should be able to return before the regular season begins.

Boldin, who got a contract extension on July 31, tore his right knee warming up for a practice last Aug. 10, had arthroscopic surgery and missed six games before returning Oct. 31 at Buffalo.

Cardinals coach Dennis Green said Boldin's nose was realigned in Prescott. He wasn't sure what other medical procedures would be needed or what the timetable would be for the star's return.

Boldin might need added protection on his facemask after his rehabilitation, Green said.

"Broken noses do occur in the game, unfortunately," Green said. "He kind of got a blow right in between the facemask and his helmet. We'll know more about that once we get an idea from the doctors."

Boldin, a third-year receiver from Florida State, set an NFL record for receptions by a rookie in 2003, catching 101 balls for 1,377 yards. He was honored as the league's Offensive Rookie of the Year and invited to the Pro Bowl.

After returning in 2004, Boldin led the team in receiving eight of the final 10 games. He had 56 catches for 623 yards on the season.

The Cardinals, injury-free the first day of camp, got more bad news.

Tight end Eric Edwards hurt his pectoral muscle Aug. 2, had an MRI the next day and will have to wear a harness two to three weeks.

"That will keep him from raising his arm up any higher," Green said.

Edwards started one game last year and is the only experienced tight end in camp for Arizona, which lost Freddie Jones to Carolina in free agency.

Even though he'll only be out a short while, that's got to hurt Boldin's chances of developing that chemistry with Warner.
