New reports surfaced in Miami Wednesday indicating the stalemate between the Dolphins and defensive end Adewale Ogunleye is not close to being resolved. The Dolphins reportedly offered him a contract on May 13 that was at least $10 million short of what Ogunleye and his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, are seeking, according to the Miami Herald. Ogunleye told the Herald he is prepared to sit out all but six games this year. He must play at least six games to be credited for a season, thus making him an unrestricted free agent next year.

Rosenhaus is reportedly going to put a new offer on the table this week, but neither side is optimistic that a deal will be reached soon. This situation is surprising, given how badly the Dolphins need playmakers in their lineup if they hope to salvage what could be a disappointing season. Barring a change of heart by either the Dolphins or Ogunleye, it looks like one of the best sackers in the league may be sidelined until well into the regular season.

I don't think that it is even fair to compare any team's losses to what Miami's have been this off-season. David Boston is gone for the year. Ricky Williams is gone for his career. Randy McMichael had an altercation with his wife. The offensive line is entirely rebuilt. Their quarterback situation is unsettled. Ogunleye is holding out and staying to his word. The entire defense underachieved the past season for what their talent level was. And to top it all off, their coach is on the hot seat this season.

It's really bad luck for Miami.
