Claiborne will sign a three-year contract worth $10.5 million and the deal includes a $3.6 million signing bonus. In terms of annual salaries, Claiborne will earn $800,000 (2005), $2.85 million (2006) and $3.25 million (2007).

Call me crazy but that doesn't seem like that big of a pay day to me...

For claiborne it seems like he cashed in. He is NOT that good of a LB and he has shown that he only plays well in a contract year.

Since there's talk about the Rams and LBs, I found these and decided to post.

"LB Dexter Coakley to the St. Louis Rams: Indications are they didn't sell the farm to get Coakley, but is he really what this defense needs? At 32, he's starting to slow down. He's small at 5-11, but he once ran well. That's what the Rams love from their linebackers, but you have to wonder again about paying a guy this age decent money. Is he an upgrade from Tommy Polley, a free agent the Rams probably won't bring back? Not really. Strange move. Then again, this is the Rams and a personnel staff that has made some bad moves the past couple of years."

"With more and more teams trying to get faster at free safety, leave it to the Rams to move a linebacker into that position. They plan on putting Pisa Tinoisamoa to that spot next season. That's part of the reason they signed Coakley on Wednesday. With the way the game is going, the safeties should be more like bigger corners than linebackers. If any quarterback looks out next season and sees Tinoisamoa and Adam Archuleta on the field at the same time, he will be licking his chops."

Claiborne will be an outstanding MLB. He is extremely athletic for a player that size. He is strong and can hit in tight quarters. He is a 6 yr starter but youth is still on his side at 26 y/o. Very good vs the run but also good in coverage as he has made some ridiculous INTs during his career and has good speed. MIN biffed by playing him outside too much, their DEs are more pass rushing types that dont play well vs the run, he was pretty much alone out there as the DEs did not occupy blockers, and had to chase RBs rather than meet them in holes. Claiborne was a stud for the Lions as a MLB and its a shame that Millen had to badmouth him when he left for a big contract from MIN because his price was cheaper this time around. He was our best defensive player when he left. He would be a good fit for any defense. Holmes is doing a good job especially in 04 but age is getting up a little and he is not a playmaker.
