Associated Press reports Green Bay Packers QB Brett Favre will officially return for the 2005 season. Favre, as reported, had previously been mulling over potential retirement.

Actually, he said that if his health keeps up, he may play more than just next year.

I happen to think that once a player starts considering retirement he already is. As you can see from Favres declining numbers the last couple of years. Ever since it came out that he was "considering" retirement. I know some people will say that it is because he is getting older but thats BS, plenty of QB's have had there best yearsin their 30's. Its the mentality of retiring he is mentally not as focused in the game.

I agree to an extent (Jerome Bettis - he won't be what he was this year)...but I'm sure his mulling over retirement wasn't due to lack of interest in the game or lack of heart as most guys' decisions are based. His was considering retiring because of personal issues (family).

About his numbers, he threw for more yards last year than in the past 4 and his QB rating was higher than it's been since 2001. So I would have to disagree.

As much as I want to dislike Favre, I can't. I'm sort of happy he's coming back because he is a legend and he'll keep the Packers in the running for the division crown. I would rather us win because we're the best and not because our division is absolutely horrid. Of course, I'll probably be saying otherwise if we turn out at 8-8 and losing all those close games next year.

Although I hate the packers, sorry nitschke, I have always admired and respected Farve and it is fun to watch his intesity and skill, even while he picks apart the Lions defense. I wish he would retire so he won't be the nwxt Jerry Rice, where you remeber how good he was, but you can't put the picture out of your mind of him playing like a shadow of his former self.

I think youhave to look at more than just his passing stats. He does not take over a game like he used. He was able to take the team on his back and carry it. It seems that those ames are far less frequent then they used to be. Just my humble opinion.

Um, favre's Passing yards was the 3rd best of his career. Overall, his numbers were some of the best in the NFL. Obviously, his peak years were the mid 90s, but he hasn't declined much.

He passed for 4,088 yds, 30 tds, a 92.4 QB rating. All of those, within career norms for him. Show me decline over the past several years. Cuz looking at his stats, i don't see it.

You are a division rival, i would expect you to hate the packers, but you respect favre, so i don't see why you should be sorry.

Elway didn't do that when he got older either, neither did marino. The only one i can think of that could still carry his team late in his career was montana.
