Does anyone have any experience with the AP tests? Any advice? I'm taking the History Friday and Gov. on Wednesday.

Ahhhhh - I took the AP History test my Jr year in HS. It was kind of a beast, but not too bad. Needless to say, I was completely fried after the test and made up for it with an hour of Old Country Buffet and then slept for about 6 hours. Best advice I can give ya - read your book thoroughly, multiple times. That was the best thing for me.

The DBQ was the easiest part for us, only because our teacher went over that exact DBQ the day before the test. Though, they say it's supposed to be the roughest part. You'll feel rushed for time, especially during the writing portion. Just take it slow and do quality work on the writing. They look more for your key points and organization in the writing (don't try to make it super long by adding filler).

I can't give ya any tips on the Gov test. I took History, Calc A/B, Chemistry, and Bio.

Thanks Convo. I am taking History online, so it is a bit of a challange. I fell behind, and I really have to cram tonight.

Ahhhh History.

I took AP History as well and the class was a blast. But I can barely recall the test as it was years ago  I did well enough to get credit but I never really needed that credit anyways

My junior year I took Government in Summer School to set up a completely blow-offable Senior year 8-[

The funny thing is that the electives especially in Science that I took like Genetics, Microbiology, Conservation, etc...were my favorite classes and the ones I learned the most in. I think schools need to look at putting more flexiblility in their curriculum and to stop focusing on creating clones. The classes I choose I excelled in and the ones that were required I did not do as well.

I took the English test Monday, and am taking History tomorrow...

My school hasn't produced anyone that got lower than a 3 the past 12 years... so I hope for a 3 :-)

I'm going to have some fun Friday night afterwards... since i'm done with school after the test and have the afternoon off.

That wasn't so bad, huh Brian?

Which essays did you chose?

For the second one, I wrote about the Massachusetts and Virginia colory political stances, and the last one, the antiwar movements and Civil Rights movements. I was going to do the Mexican war one (the majority of the kids from my school did), but I drew a blank to NE's role (then after the test said, duh! Slavery!)

The MC was really easy at the beginning, but got progressively harder. The first and last essays were cake... why even bother putting something from the American Revolution on there? Every American knows about that.

I did the same two essays that you did. I was pretty clueless about the Mexican war one. I started the intro, than crossed it out and did the other.

The word on the street is that two of the heads are American Revolution specialists.

Great... so when I get my 2, I shouldn't be too dissapointed...

I still wrote 3 1/2 pages on the revolution essay... If I can write that much, hopefully they will give me a 3, although I want a 4 so I can get rid of freshman year History @ college

Same with English, but I don't think I got a 4 on that one either. Psh.

Where are you going? Unless its UofM, a three should get you credit, right?

A lot of places only accept 4s and above. U of M is on par, as far as AP acceptance scores, with most other schools. U of M's standards are fairly high, but not out of the norm for your big name, high cost school.

In my case, History was accepted at a 4 or 5 and I was given 6 credit hours (History 221 and 222). Calc, Econ, Foreign Languages, Gov, and Geography are generally your classes that are accepted as a 3. Generally because they give you credits for intro 100 level classes.

Story time (cuz U of M was mentioned):
I personally turned down U of M because they tried making me pay a deposit before I came and visited. All I wanted was a guided tour! I told them to keep their tuition scholarship and I was going to Iowa State. They didn't like it, but oh well. Since then, I've rooted for the Spartans. U of M is overhyped IMO.

Ouch, I did two overnight visits during spring break, and didn't get charged a thing.

poop... I would have given you a visit of the "real" U of M... ROTF

Michigan isn't cheap.... but neither is out of state. I'm pretty much screwed in each scenario.

bsand: Have no clue where I am going.... leaning to U of M, but I haven't gotten ACT or SAT scores yet. I think I should get in regardless of what I do on them. I'd like to go out of state.

Brian, what are you looking at studying? Purdue has a good engineering school. That was my first choice, but they wouldn't give me more than $7000 a year. They're kind of stingy when it comes to money, but they have a nice campus, and good school.
