Quote: Giants: Another brush with the law for Burress Friday, June 17, 2005 Less than two weeks after one arrest warrant for Giants WR Plaxico Burress was rescinded, another was issued when he failed to appear in a Virginia Beach court on Wednesday for a hearing regarding a reckless driving charge. Burress received a ticket on May 29 for improper passing and signed the summons to appear in court earlier this week.
According to a clerk at the Virginia Beach General District Court, Burress has 10 days to turn himself in before authorities begin searching for him. As of late yesterday afternoon, he had not done so. The Giants and Burress' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, had no comment on the situation.
Burress, who was arrested and charged with public intoxication in Virginia three years ago, had been served with a warrant for unpaid taxes by a Moon Twp., Pa. judge late last month. The former Steeler, who signed with the Giants as a free agent in March, was cleared on June 1 when he provided the proper paperwork to show he had paid his taxes in full.

Quote: Dolphins | Police & Courts: Quintin Williams Thu, 23 Jun 2005 11:29:15 -0700
The Associated Press reports Miami Dolphins S Quintin Williams was arrested on DUI and drag racing charges Thursday, June 23, after he was stopped while driving 111 miles per hour on Interstate 595. Dolphins FS Travares Tillman was a passenger in Williams' 2006 Mercedes Benz, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Troopers also pulled over a 2005 Nissan Maxima driven by Brandy Lynn Richards, who was charged with unlawful speeding and racing on a highway because she was going 109 MPH. Richards identified herself as a Dolphins cheerleader, but team spokesman Harvey Greene said a person by that name was not a member of the squad. Williams was taken to a Broward Sheriff's Office facility where his blood-alcohol level was measured at .087 percent.

Colts: Harper waives right to initial hearing
The News
Colts cornerback Nick Harper, arrested earlier this month on domestic battery charges, waived his right to an initial hearing, scheduled for Wednesday. Harper was arrested June 4 after a disturbance at his home which authorities say resulted in Harper hitting his wife and causing an abrasion near her eye.
Our View
The court will set a date for Harper's next appearance, though if he enters a guilty plea he won't have to appear in court until sentencing. The current charges Harper faces are a Class A misdemeanor and could result in as much as one year in jail.

Update on Taylor, prison time? He was charged June 24 by state prosecuters, he faces a single count of aggravated assault with a firearm.
Gun charges filed against Redskins' Taylor
NFL.com wire reports
MIAMI (June 24, 2005) -- Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor would face a minimum prison sentence of three years if convicted on charges of pointing a gun during a dispute about an all-terrain vehicle.
A trial date was set for Sept. 12, the day after the Redskins open their season.
State prosecutors filed charges June 24 against the 22-year-old former University of Miami star. He faces a single count of aggravated assault with a firearm, said Michael Greico, assistant state attorney.
Taylor allegedly was among a group of people who got into a June 1 armed confrontation over a vehicle the player and his associates believed had been stolen. Another man in the group, 19-year-old Charles Caughman, also faces aggravated assault charges. He is accused of threatening and chasing someone with a baseball bat.
Taylor, the No. 5 overall draft pick by the Redskins in 2004, did not appear in court and has filed a written plea of not guilty.
His attorney, Edward Carhart, said his client hoped to avoid charges after meeting with prosecutors voluntarily and presenting polygraph test results the lawyer said clear Taylor of wrongdoing. Polygraph results usually are not admissible in court.
Greico said the charges involve three victims. He would not comment on the substance of the case but said Taylor faces a maximum prison term of 16 years.
Taylor signed a seven-year, $18 million deal with the Redskins after he was drafted. The team has excused him from further offseason practices and meetings so he can concentrate on his case.
Taylor was charged with drunken driving in October after attending a birthday party for receiver Rod Gardner. Those charges were dismissed, but Taylor was convicted for refusing to take a blood-alcohol test. The conviction was later dismissed.
Taylor also has fired two agents, was fined for skipping one day of the NFL's mandatory rookie symposium and was accused of spitting on a player during a game at Cincinnati.
I hope this doesnt turn out to be another case where a jock gets off light because hes a celebrity. Any of us would be facing jail time and its a shame that hes probably goin to get off with a slap on the wrist.

 Dolphins cut Quintin Williams
Quote: MIAMI (AP) -- The Miami Dolphins cut Quintin Williams on Friday, just one day after the second-year safety was arrested on DUI and drag racing charges.
At 4 a.m. Thursday, Williams was clocked driving 111 mph on Interstate 595 near the Dolphins practice facility in Davie with teammate Travares Tillman in his passenger seat, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The 22-year-old Williams failed a roadside DUI test and was charged with DUI, racing on a highway and unlawful speeding, Lt. Bill Ferrell said. Williams was released from jail Thursday.
Tillman was allowed to get a ride home with the other driver, Brandy Lynn Richards, but he was not arrested. Richards was charged with unlawful speeding and racing on a highway.
On Thursday, when asked whether Williams and Tillman would face any disciplinary action from the team, Dolphins coach Nick Saban indicated that he was not close to making any decisions.
"What do you want me to do, cut the guys? I don't understand what you're asking me," Saban said, responding to the question. "I can't fine a player for this. We're not in the season. I really can't do anything to the players to be honest with you."
Williams was signed as an undrafted college free agent last year. He spent the first nine weeks on the practice squad last season and appeared in six games in a reserve role. He was credited with four special teams tackles.
Also Friday, the Dolphins waived wide receiver Luther Huggins and tight end Victor Sesay. Both were signed as undrafted free agents this offseason.

Almost sounds like Saban started to lose it when he was being questioned by the press.

 Shame on Detroit
Quote: Saints | Smith Robbed Tue, 28 Jun 2005 17:02:41 -0700
ClickOnDetroit.com reports New Orleans Saints S Dwight Smith was robbed at gunpoint Sunday night, June 26, while visiting family in Detroit, Local 4 reported. He had just returned from a market to a home in the 15000 block of Quincy Street on the city's west side when the incident occurred. Police said a car pulled up in front of the home at about 11 p.m. A man exited the vehicle with an assault rifle and ordered Smith to remove his jewelry, according to police. A woman in the car was ordered to pickup the jewelry. The two fled the scene with about $100,000 in jewelry and $4,000 in cash, police said. Smith is now back in Florida while the investigation into the case continues.
Shame on the city of Detroit for robbing Smith! But it does beg the question...
How many of us are walking around in Detroit at night with $4K of cash while we're waring $100K of jewelry?

What an idiot! It is an unfortunate incident, but why would you walk around ANY city, much less Detroit, at nighttime with that much money and flashy jewelry on! I would feel bad for him if I wasn't laughing so hard
