None off them made us winners. We were mediocre at best. Love Barry, but he could only do so much. I'd gate to ruin another RB in Detroit because we didn't get a team around him. Besides, I think two third round or later solid rbs can make you a winner.

To be perfectly honest, I'm not impressed by any of the RBs projected to go early in next year's draft. Spiller and Best are small and have injury concerns. Because of that, I question whether they could be every down backs in the NFL. As I mentioned earlier, I don't know what to make of Dwyer because of the goofy offense he's in. He could be good or he could be a bust. Ryan Matthews seems similar to Kevin Smith to me. He doesn't have great size or speed, but is solid. He doesn't excel in any one area, so he'd probably be average at the next level. Toby Gerhart lacks speed, so he could be relegated to FB or a short yardage specialist. I wouldn't take any of them early in the draft because the Lions have so many more pressing needs.

I know many won't agree with me, but I'd sign Chester Taylor in free agency. He's from Michigan, so he may want to come here and he won't cost all that much. I know that he's 30, but he hasn't taken much abuse over the years, so he should still have a few years left in him. Alternate him with Morris until Kevin Smith is healthy. They won't be spectacular or anything, but I believe they would be a solid tandem that could keep the chains moving picking up the tough yardage.

I love Chester Taylor, being a rocket and watching him destroy people in college. He shouldn't be relegated to spot duties behind Peterson. He's got a lot of mileage left and with a 50/50 split of carries hell do some damage. He's had a raw deal since going pro.

I'd LOVE to have Chester on this team, and I would immediately make him the starter, regardless of whether KSmith is fully healthy or not. Taylor runs with better vision, has a more downhill approach at the hole, and a second gear to speak of. Also, he's a better catcher out of the backfield. He's just an all-around better running back than Smith or Morris.

Here's the list of UFA and RFA for this offseason. From those guys, Taylor seems to be the best pickup if he does hit the market.

I'm glad to see that nobody blasted me about the Chester Taylor comment yet. I know that there will be bigger names out there that are younger, but they will also cost much more. Nobody pays a 30 year old RB a ton of money and I think Taylor may want to end his career at home. It just makes the most sense to me, even though I know some people will be crying for Ronnie Brown, Darren Sproles, Leon Washington, Reggie Bush, etc.

Id take Sproles over Chester if they'd command the same salary, but they won't. I think it helps us to have all those bigger name guys out there. Muddy the water and flood the market.

I don't want to get too far off topic here but as much as I'd welcome him, I don't see Ronnie Brown getting out of Miami. At least not to go to Detroit, but like I said, I'd be glad to have him.

Sproles and Bush are strictly role players. They cannot carry the load, and Kevin Smith is a backup....sorry, but that's what he is. As mentioned previously, Chester has been a backup player his entire career, but only because the teams he was on had true feature backs. I doubt he would have signed with Minnesota if he knew they would take AP. Ronnie Brown has been used and abused in Miami, and too often gets injured. Leon Washington would be the only other consideration, but I don't see him as being as versatile as Chester Taylor.

And there would be the added benefit of strengthening us while weakening a division opponent.
