Ok. Not that I put a lot of stock into Scouts Inc, but Kareen jackson is now rated as the 18th best player in this draft, 4 spots above Kyle Wilson.

Does anybody know how or why this happened, xconsidering bothw ere considered 30th-40th picks until KW destroyed the Senior bowl and then was solid at the combine?

Would anybody here take Kareem over Kyle? If so , why. I am just curious how he jumped into 2nd CB on the board status, from being the (about evenly rated) 3rd/4th/5th back around picks 30-40.

When was his pro day? That's the only thing I can think of that may have changed things.

Could also be that Kyle Wilson is being over-hyped. Not saying he is or isn't, just a thought.

Thats wierd. I, myself, have Kyle Wilson as my #1 cornerback. So to jump him is beyond me.

I believe Kyle Wilson/Boise's pro day came around March 26/27, and Alabama I'm sure was around March 10th/11th, and I remember in particular Kyle Wilson's pro day received rave reveiws at the time and was what pushed him up into the low 20's.

As for Jackson rated more highly on Scouts, Inc I'd just attribute that to a particular scouts opinion/ bias regarding 2 different players. He might like something about Jackson's game/personality/hygiene more then Wilson that compels him to rate him more highly.

I like em both and wouldn't be depressed to see either's name called on our behalf at #34.

True,. I guess what I meant was.. Kareen jackson wasnt even on the top 32 from Scouts Inc like a month ago. So it appears to be something recent that allowed him to not only jump in the top 32, but to pass KW and go all the way to 18.

Id be happy with either, but I really like KW.

Scouts Inc. is just one opinion. I'm sorry, but I watched a number of Alabama games, and I wasn't all that impressed with Jackson. In particular, his play in the championship game left much to be desired. Javier Arenas outplayed him in that game, by a wide margin.

However, Jackson does have more athletic talent and prototypical size. At this point, I question his mental makeup for the game. He seems to have less instinct than most pro corners with good cover skills do.

I have him rated behind Haden, Wilson, McCourty and Robinson.....very close to Perrish Cox. If not for the off-field issues with Cox, I'd have Jackson ranked behind him. I have him graded as mid to late second round pick.

Scouts Inc. Hmmm. The more I look over their rankings every year, the more I think their agenda is to be different for the sake of being different. Plus Todd McShay has finally caught up to Mel Kiper douchness... if not already surpassed him.

Honestly the only Corner from Alabama on my radar prior to the offseason was Javier Arenas.

I thought Kareem Jackson looked pretty good early in the season, but then his play tailed off. The exact opposite happened with Arenas. He played poorly to start the year, but got better as the season progressed.

I agree with m2k that Kareem Jackson is over rated. He's a pretty good player but I don't see him as the second best corner in the draft. We all know that McShay is kind of a toolbox so don't read too much into what he says. As douchey as Kiper is he at least is a little bit closer on his rankings to how things actually shake down then McShay is.

Current CB rankings from NFLDRAFTSCOUT.COM I only listed the top 20.
This needs to be taken with a grain of salt, I believe the teams rank them according to whether or not they fit there scheme. Is the player a zone corner or a man corner? Makes a difference. That's why the Lions got Houston, he didn't fit the Falcons zone cover system.

The following article kinda makes me think the Lions will target a CB or two this year.

Lions secondary still needs more depth

BY NICHOLAS J. COTSONIKA
FREE PRESS SPORTS WRITER

The Lions have gone through so many players in the secondary in recent years, it's difficult to keep count.

The problem was especially acute last season as the Lions finished last in the NFL in pass defense. Players were benched because of poor performance. Players got hurt. Players came. Players went.

The Lions have made more changes this off-season, parting with veteran cornerbacks Phillip Buchanon and Anthony Henry, and acquiring younger corners Chris Houston, 25, and Jonathan Wade, 26. But they still have more work to do as the NFL draft approaches.

Not only do they need talent, they need depth. Coach Jim Schwartz pointed out that teams dress players at defensive back more than at any other position.

"The other thing is that defensive backs get hurt at a higher rate than just about any other position on the field," Schwartz said last month at the NFL owners meetings in Orlando. "The reason is, other positions have gotten bigger and bigger while defensive backs have stayed basically the same, especially corners. It's not a matter of if somebody gets hurt and has to miss a game, it's a matter of when. You have to be prepared.

"One person in the secondary who doesn't play well and makes mistakes can make the whole secondary look bad. It's how the whole secondary plays, and if there's one weak link in that chain, the whole group can look bad. And offenses are really good at finding that one guy and exploiting him."

Kareem Jackson has some return skills and some draft experts will boost a players value on that as they can add immediate help in that respect. I typically don't as I wouldn't want one of our top corners exposed to more injuries in the return game.

liontrax, I saw that Free Press article this morning and laughed at the title. The secondary needs starters, and consists of nothing but depth (excluding Delmas and possibly Houston). The last I looked they had 17 DBs under contract, so there's plenty of depth there. It may not be quality and it certainly could be upgraded, but it's depth nonetheless.
