 Can LT Beat Out Smith?
Ok, so I know last year everyone thought LT was washed up, but he's having one heck of a season for his age. If he finishes out the year at the same rate he is now he will end up with over 1,300 yards for the season and 14-15 TD's. That would keep in pretty much one pace with Smith in yards but absolutely have him way ahead in TD's. If he can stay in the league for another 5 years (same total amount of years as Smith) he'd need to average 920ish yards per season to break the record and only 2-3 TD's a season to beat his total in TD's.
Anyone think he can do it? I only ask because when we all thought he was done... here he is again. 5 more years is a LONG time.

Re: Can LT Beat Out Smith?
Why not? He won't last 5 years? He won't average that many yards if he does?

Re: Can LT Beat Out Smith?
If he can last another 5 years without injury, how the hell couldn't he? He's the most talented RB of the 2000's and one of the most talented runners ever.
However, I don't think he'll go another 5 years without truly slowing down. I don't think he'll get there, I'm only saying that I think he could if he stayed healthy.

Re: Can LT Beat Out Smith?
If he produced like this year for another 2 years (not unreasonable with the Jets) he'd only have to average 700ish yards his last 3 years. So it'd look like:
Finish this year with 1300 2011 1300 2012 1300 2013 700 2014 700 2015 700
Maybe that is more reasonable?

Maybe that is more reasonable? People were thinking he was out of gas before this season. I think what remains to be seen is whether he's really caught a second wind or he's just benefiting from being on a very strong Jets team.

I just find it interesting that they could be sitting neck and neck after the same # of seasons. I mean, neither one had as many yards as the best RB of all time Barry Sanders at that time in their career, down by almost 2000 yards

Re: Can LT Beat Out Smith?
Five more years as a very productive running back is an awful lot to ask from LT, I just don't see it happening. Most running backs do not even have a five year career, let alone five more years on top of ten productive years. So kudos to LT for making it this long but another 4500 yards or so, I do not believe it is in the cards.

Re: Can LT Beat Out Smith?
It's fair to think not, I mean, no one expected Emmitt to go that much longer either. Heck, he had a 900 yard season his last and 15th year. Insane!
