 Re: Vernon Gholston Instead of assuming things, anyone take a look at his playing time?
2010 = 0 starts, DE
2009 = 3 starts, LB
2008 = 0 starts, LB
Total amount of snaps < 20% played. He is the prototypical misused draft pick with potential to be very productive in a new environment. Will he? IDK, but he fits that mold of being able to.

Fisher or Joekel or Lane Johnson for #5 overall. I have settled on Johnson as my preference. The only thing Joekel and Fisher have over him is experience at LT. 2 years from now, Lane Johnson will be known as the best LT of this draft!

Re: Vernon Gholston Gholston has athletic talent, he just needs to get his head on straight. My understanding, even before he got drafted, was that he had the work ethic of a sloth. Maybe being around KVB and Ndamukong would help snap him out of it. Who knows? But it's worth it to sign him and see what happens. If he doesn't put in honest efforts during camp workouts, you cut him and move on. What's to lose?

Re: Vernon Gholston If we picked up Gholston with this defensive line Suh, Fairley, Williams, and he can't get a sack then he's a honest to goodness bust. We should have a shot at him for three reasons: defensive line, 4-3, he's a local boy.

Comment: I just googled Gholston to find his career stats. The first suggestion was "Vernon Gholston bust." That tells you all you need to know. The No. 6 overall pick of the 2008 draft has no career sacks. But there is no downside to giving him a flyer for camp, and if anyone can get something out of him, it's Bears defensive coordinator/line guru Rod Marinelli.
